Another DCF Guangzhou Immigration Visa Approved!

Thanks VisaJourney for all of your help!  My wife's immigrant visa has been approved!

My wife had her biometrics on Tues, May 14.  We brought the yellow book that confirms all of her vaccinations completed by a consulate sanctioned hospital.  Although a consulate sanctioned hospital in Tianjin approved these vaccinations, the hospital in Guangzhou wouldn't accept her MMR and chicken pox vaccination records so she had to get another MMR and Chicken Pox vaccine administered.  I wasn't very happy about that, but what can you do?  My wife tells me the staff was very pushy about moving things along and a bit rude.  Sounds like a task oriented hospital.  The sooner they get everyone done, the sooner they can leave.  I don't why they were that way.  I hope they can improve their quality of service.

The Guangzhou consulate collected all the documents ahead of time.  We were hoping to not need to give the joint sponsor affidavit of support so that our friends would not have to absorb risk for us, but they required all the documents before my wife could talk to anyone about it.  Oh well, we will tell stories of our friend's grand sacrifice and love to us for generations to come.  Perhaps the consulate didn't want to rob us of that.

These were the questions asked at the interview:

1. Have you been to other countries besides the US? Was it for vacation? (This one was asked during the documents submitting process, I think the purpose is to know if you need a police check from another country)

2. How long have you been married?
3. How long was the longest time you stayed in the US?
4. How did you and your husband meet?
5. Has your husband been living in China the whole time? Where is he now?
6. What’s his job? What’s the name of the school that he works at?
7. Show me some photos.
8. Who is this in the photo?  (she pointed at our niece.  Sounded like a random question, but I guess it is to confirm is was an authentic photo.)
9. Is your husband looking for a job in the US now?

Consulate staff was very friendly and personable.  My wife was very happy with the experience at the Guangzhou consulate.

They told us we'll have her passport with her visa in two weeks!

I really appreciate everyone who gave thoughts to our process.  It was very nice getting feedback and ideas from so many people.  I think we would have been in trouble about the Affidavit of Support and Intent to Domicle packets if people hadn't mentioned it on VisaJourney.

Again, thanks All!

Congrats to you both, great to hear a fellow Guangzhou DCF'er making it through the process!

Hopefully my wife won't have the same headaches at the medical office, her vac records are from Shunde, hopefully they like it better than what your wife had.

It does seem for DCF expecting a joint sponsor is nearly automatic.  I've taken the advice of others to prepare the affidavits, along with some files I've prepared for intent to domicile.  It's made easier having parents that are 100% supportive of the process, and wasted no time filling out forms and such.

Thanks for the rundown of the interview process she went through, this is very helpful!

This was encouraging to hear.  If it's expected by almost everyone to get a Joint Sponsor Affidavit of Support perhaps that is why there wasn't much thought about discussing it.

Hi all! This is LightSear's wife speaking :) After chatting with LightSear, we decided to let me clarify the medical records thing since I went through it by myself. Poor LightSear got the stories mixed up after hearing my experiences with both hospitals... In short, they DIDN'T reject my old records; they simply asked questions about them. However, I think Guangzhou would only accept the original copies of immunization records; whereas the Tianjin hospital accepted photo copies.

Longer version of the story:

  1. I got 1 shot of chicken pox vaccine and 1 shot of MMR up in Tianjin at the end of last year. But when I came down to Guangzhou, they required me to get a 2nd shot of both. It wasn't a big deal and I went along. I just was a bit surprised because the Tianjin hospital didn't inform me that these two vaccines require 2 shots. Perhaps different hospitals have different rules.
  2. Last year, I gave the photo copies of my childhood records to the Tianjin hospital, and they transferred the records onto the "little yellow book" (the officially accepted immunization record book by the Consulate). At the Guangzhou hospital this week, I handed in my "little yellow book". They were just a tiny bit surprised that I came in so prepared, having the little yellow book and all. They accepted it after asking me a few questions, such as "Which country did you intend to travel to when you received these shots (referring to my chicken pox and MMR shots)?" "Where are the original copies?" (After I said the originals are with my parents in my hometown, they were ok with it since the records had been transferred to the little yellow book)

I also would like to personally thank you all at Visajourney who have been taking the time and effort to support us and encourage us! This journey would've been much harder without you guys. We are so thankful and proud to be a part of this community. You guys rock!

Just an update.  We have immigrated to America!  We are starting life here.  Lots of things I didn't really think about in preparing for new life in the States.  For example, I need my social security card to apply for a driver's license (I have no W-2s or social security benefits papers to prove my social security number is indeed mine.)  But we are happy to have made it.
