My mom filing for my sister, How long are the wait times lately?

Hello Everyone, 
it's been a while since I was in VJ. 

 

I just want to get feedback as to how long it might take for my sister to get an approval. Here are the details.

 

Petitioner: My mom 

Status: Permanent Resident

Filing: i-130 

 

Beneficiary: My sister, 18 years old. 

Living in Philippines, right now.

Filing date First week of May 2019

 

Any feedback is appreciated

Depends on which service center is processing the i130.

Overall filing i130 to Visa interview: Around 2 - 2.5 years. Your sister should be under 21 at the time.

 

Just for i130 approval: The lengthy i130 processing times will help your sister’s case in case she turns 21 for visa processing. So hope for that as she has to wait for her PD to become current regardless.

I checked the link to check processing times for both Vermont and Texas.. 
it looks like its between 5-8 months. looks like it.

I-130s for family preference categories (i.e. F2A - child of a green card holder) are typically sent to California (CSC).

Sounds about right, actually. Sorry.

As noted in the thread aready, how long the I-130 takes is rarely the limiting factor. If they approved it tomorrow it would just sit at NVC waiting for the PD to become current.

And fast processing might actually cause her to age out into F2B...so it taking longer at the USCIS stage is actually better.

Doesn’t matter because it’s about two years for the PD to be current anyway.

Why, do you think that would be much faster? Some FOs are taking a year to process naturalization, and then it would still be another year or so so probably around the same. I mean, she can file the 130 now and naturalize and upgrade I suppose. Will probably save a bit of time. Is there any particular reason she hasn’t applied for naturalization yet btw?

She can. But citizenship process can take up to a year itself.

This is true. Depending on where mom lives, Naturalization can take up to 12mos. I'm in LA, filed N400 last Oct 2018 and I just received my N400 interview schedule yesterday!  She should file soon regardless.

Waiting to file until after citizenship may result in it taking even longer. Or worse, causing her to age out if her application gets severely held up or denied.

 

She can file now file. She can upgrade the petition from F2A to IR-2 after she naturalizes (if she does so).

Depending on local field office, it may end up taking a couple to several months faster as a citizen this way. It's not much in the total scheme of things, but it is something.

I filed in October last year too, but I'm still waiting..estimated October this year, and that’s in line with the thread from my FO where everyone takes around a year from application to interview ...and then another month or two for the oath.
