Health insurance question prior to AOS

Hi all. Me and my wife recently married and I want to add her to my employer insurance. We opted to receive a SSN in our AOS packet but we aren't able to mail it off until a later date, and by time we receive a response our window to add her in might be past. I think a recent marriage allows 30 days or so to make alterations to insurance? not too sure.....Anyways I am curious if there is a way to add her to my medical insurance prior to receiving a SSN? any information with be appreciated. Thank you..

That will be a 5 to 7 month wait for the EAD approval triggering the issuance of a SSN. Instead, she should go to the SSA office ASAP. The K-1 SSN deadline is 76 days* after US entry with the K-1; the earlier she submits the SS-5 form the better. https://www.ssa.gov/forms/ss-5.pdf

*The K-1 I-94 should at least have 2 weeks left. That date is June 4, 2019 for your wife: https://www.visajourney.com/timeline/profile.php?id=296439

I would immediately speak with my HR dept and insurance carrier and ask them to add her immediately while you wait for a SSN.

Like mentioned, go talk with your HR department. If your company offers good insurance, usually you don't need to wait for the open enrollment "window", because marriage will fall under the "life change" policy part and you can add her at any time.

SSN is not needed.

I just had this journey with my HR. I am a federal employee and after several emails between several offices including OPM it was determined that in in fact a SSN is not needed but must be provided as soon as possible))))

Not a newbie but lost my old info years ago) I have been through this process before --all the way through naturalization-- This site has always been a great help to me.

They are asking me for a copy of her immigration document. Should I send the I-94 since it is the current controlling document? or is more required?

Also Does the I-94 remain the controlling document while the AOS is pending or will that be an NOA for the AOS?
