Why reward someone for breaking the law?  The USA is a land of rules and laws that are actually enforced, compared to some 3rd world country that has rules and laws but they are not enforced.

live somewhere for 10 years, its your home. legal or not.

The flip side is this would disrupt the political system in the USA for a decade or so and make it lean heavily to the democratic side as well

Obviously not a issue to the majority of the voters of the 2016 election, majority of America.

And as someone else stated it has been done before.  All it does is to provide incentive to others to come and hopefully they will get amnesty.

He also stated lack of securing the border.  Which is far more effective economically to increase personal along the border and create more posts along the border.  Re using drones from the war in Afghanistan has already been proven to be more effective in stopping illegal immigrants from crossing on foot than a wall.

I'm all for securing the border, but lets not do it in the "I'm sick of looking at you" type of way.

border security and border enforcement is a nightmare

For me you have to start somewhere.  I am thinking Trump plan is to 1.) Secure the border first 2.) Deal with all the illegal/overstays in the USA second.

For me to attack or deal with issue #2 before taking care of issue #1 is a waste of time

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.

More personnel and drones are fine, but what do we do with those folks that do not come in the front door?  Many cross the border illegally and in fact plan to get picked up so they can utter those magic words “amnesty”, then what happens?  If they are kept detained, then the US is cruel.  If there are children involved, then what do we do, split up families to keep children out of adult detainment, keep them together, release them with a promise they will show up for a hearing in the future?  In my opinion we still need something in place to funnel those attempting to enter to come in the front door.

Overhaul the immigration system, and enforce the laws

First off eliminate the if you are born here, you are a US Citizen would be a nice starting place

A wall can be dug under.. (as it already has),  flown over (as it is)  and sailed around (also currently done).

Personal can be moved.  a wall can not.  again, majority of illegals entering come on legal visas and overstay.

many do enter the border through the front door. by being smuggled... wall wont srop this again, personel and more posts will..

Building a wall wont stop the desperate.  and it will be wasted money.  at least if the personel dont work you can replace them for more effective personel.

and dont think democrats dont want to secure the borders, they simply dont want to waste money on a way that will be maybe 10% effective... until everyone who cant get a visitor visa just goes under the wall through new tunnels. the wall will be maybe 1%

$5b is alot to waste for a country with litteraly no money.  almost $30T in debt.  At least hiring personel adds income tax to people, and more spending money wich results in sales tax to collect as well.

correction.. $5b is to start it.  $12b-$15b to build it, and add another estimated $37m/mile to buy the privately owned land it will rest on.

Well worth it

To keep out the crime, disease, drugs, and uneducated people who are only a burden on the US economy

and there is little evidence to this..

I know much more citizens being a burden to this country than anyone else.

If you judge a whole group by acts of the few... then judge the US also as school shooting trigger happy people..

and again.. drugs wont stop emtering with a wall or without.  plenty of tunnels.

And mexico has free vaccines in their country to their people... highly doubt they carry diseases as stated.  Central america, im sure.. but majority illegals crosing border are mexicans.

Mexico is a rich country compared to countries south of Mexico.   Mexico has very low education and very high crime rate compared to the USA, and the border towns are now dangerous, that is why people put walls and fences all around their houses, this is common in 3rd world countries as well.

The American Citizen is tired of being taken advantage of and having no immigration laws enforced.  You can't bring a 3rd world mentality into a 1st World country and think it will blend.

Take the brightest and the best and the educated and come here legally if you qualify for a visa, if not stay home and don't break Federal Laws.

Pretty Simple isn't it?

Wasting $50b on a wall that will be non-efective is pointless.

Pretty simple, isnt it?

And yes, Mexico has low education... but probably because they can treat highschool as a college type deal where you pick a specific speacilized area to learn.

I know my fiance choose to focus on computer information technology, and mathematics.

Shes amazing at math and science but highly lacks reading skills.  her sister chose to focus on literature.. and she sucks at math.  another sister didnt go to "preperatoria" becuase until recently.. it was also optional.

Many immigration laws are also enforced.

Personally I could not care less how the border is secured as long as it is secured.  You mentioned airports and sailing in, but last time I checked, those PoEs were pretty secure.  We also though need to change the law making it impossible to claim asylum for successfully getting past all the border security illegally particularly if one has already passed through other countries perfectly capable of processing an asylum claim.

Actually the US as a whole spends over $200 Billion a year on Illegals in this country. So a wall at say $25 Billion would pay for itself in no time.
