In my research, it said that we need to wait 2 week before applying for a social security number.  Is this true?

🙏

Thank you so much, everyone!

I know of people who applied a day or so after arrival....without issues.

Your immigration records need to show up in the SSA computers - it will often take as long as 2 weeks.

Once the K-1 visa is out of status (90 days), you will no longer be able to apply until your work authorization comes through.

It used to, but they switched to an all-electronic system in June 2018.  Now, that should happen almost instantaneously.

Cool - yes - as long as the record shows up on the SS computer, you should be able to apply

We applied on nov 28th (Day after her arrival)
They accepted the application with I-94 in hand, passport. No issues there. Now the wait time.. It's weirdly long lol. Almost 4 weeks now, still nothing. Last time i checked "Save" it said it was updated a week ago... Officers said we should get it before the end of December.. As usual with federal institutions. the waiting game.

TL;DR Yes you can apply from day 1.

Hi,

Actually yes, last thursday we got a letter from local Social Security office that we should expect for card in next two weeks, then two days later we got the actual card sent from Maryland. So Dead on 4 weeks (Excluding holidays).
As i said, and will repeat myself. You can apply from Day 1, does it affect the waiting time? It doesn't look like that. if you wait 2 weeks or apply right away, regardless they have to verify your info with DHS, so it depends more from DHS than Social Security. Next week, onto changing the name, and submitting AoS, EAD and AP. If anyone has questions, feel free to ask away !
