I am happy that the Dems did not do so bad,  seriously concerned about the mental health of some of their stalwarts. Most seem to be suffering PTSD after 2016.

As am I. As I have said before I am not a Republican. I am more of a constitutionalist. It just so happens currently the Republicans (at least some of them) do a much better job (though far from perfect) of following the constitution. That being said I was getting a little uneasy about the idea of one party having total control over all 3 branches of the government. The Republicans basically control the Supreme court and there is a chance they could gain another seat soon. With the Democrats, as bad as they are, running the House that adds another check to our system of government.

But seriously... what does it matter WHICH party controls which segment of the government, when they are all just fighting internally, and none of them really seem concerned with what is good for all of us that they have been elected to serve?

That is the thing that seems to have been embraced by the Washington insiders of both parties.  They seem to be much more loyal to their elite colleagues than worried about the folks they serve.  This is one of the reasons I tend to vote against incumbents on a regular basis.

There is just no way to get away from the never ending hatred for President Trump. When I go out for a meal it is to eat, if I want to talk politics I will do it with the others eating at my table. I don't need the little snide unwelcome remarks that come from servers that automatically assume I am anti Trump just because I happen to be sitting at one of their tables. 

 

Today for example an amber alert went out across the mobile phone networks and my server automatically went into anti Trump mode with his comment " that's not another one of those stupid messages from Trump is it" The amber alerts have been frequent over the past few days in NC since the young kid went missing in Lumberton but this numbskull figured he could turn it in an excuse to make a comment about the President. You would think in an industry that has low pay and the servers rely on the tips that they would just serve the food and be cordial and not risk anything that would offend, well sorry I am offended and your tip will be reduced accordingly.

When you are in a customer service biz, as I am. Politics is the 3rd rail of interaction.  I have had customers go on a unhinged liberal semi rant, I just acknowledge them, make some generalized non confrontational comment , that sounds like I am of the same mind and move on

 

I have found that customers that are very dogmatic politically  when you are helping them, on either side are generally a waste of time and full of bull.

 

To be fair I have customers that becuse I am older and white. Assume it's ok to make some very very racial comments.  I got a co worker who is white Male 40ish. With black kids who has encountered the same.

 

Flip side I have encountered black customers who will not allow a white person to help them.

I'd have left a penny and a note on the receipt saying that I support Trump, not idiots that cannot see the good he's doing for America.

We had a similar situation with the company who was doing the transporting of our household goods from Ireland. The agent was based in New York and each time I spoke with him I got the how crazy the US is with all the Trump stuff going on. It was only after I said I agreed with most of what Trump does that he said it was a great country. My wife was stressed because at that stage our cargo was still in transit and she thought me speaking up might cause problems, the only reason I actually spoke up was because he was an Irish immigrant himself and I felt he could handle a bit of banter. Turns out he was a nice guy and we could agree to disagree and still laugh about life which is the way it should be.   

 

My wife is very sensitive about it and doesn't really feel safe enough to speak her mind to others, she generally asks me not to respond to avoid potential conflict.

That's understandable on her part.  It often doesn't go well.

 

I was on a flight the other day, and the guy next to me brought up politics, which I try to avoid in confined spaces.  He leaned a fair bit more left than I, but we found much common ground, thankfully.  That's the way it SHOULD be.  Find stuff to agree on that makes things better, and probe the edges to find things that can be improved upon, slowly.

 

At the end of any discussion, it is unlikely any of us will sway the opinion of anyone, unless they are already headed that direction.
