Guess I am guilty of perpetuating this belief.  For years, when my kids were small, I would tell them that the brown cows produced chocolate milk.  (I do use Ovaltine as a weekend treat!)

I will say I too am a milk lover.  I consume milk, cheese, or ice cream daily.  Must have at least half and half in coffee.

My family ran a dairy processing plant back in the day, so I was educated as to how milk, chocolate milk and ice cream was processed early in life.

I hated milk until I got in basic and on occasion was the only beverage served

I couldn't drink milk as a child, so it was special formula for me. By the time I reached a point where I seemed to slightly tolerate milk as an adult, I had no taste for it. It just tastes disgusting to me, and I still am bothered by consumption of it unless it is low fat or cooked form. I can tolerate small amounts of cheese and yoghurt, but for the most part I even find yoghurt to be especially unpleasant. I use soy or almond milk out of necessity.

That is understandable...tragic...but understandable.  I tried to do a diet once where I had to cut dairy....it didn't last long!  I can't stand the taste of soy, but almond milk and even oat milk can be tasty in the right application. Coconut milk ice cream can be yummy (very brand dependant). It's good that we have more options available now, for those who don't like/can't tolerate milk. I'm just really glad I can stick with the cow kind! You're in good company though - Ed, the Full Metal Alchemist, hates milk too!

Whole milk, as in the real stuff from cows, not the pasteurized stuff you buy in stores, is tasty, and probably as good as any for us.  Drank it whole, skimmed the cream off the top, made butter & ice cream growing up.  Heck, I drank it straight from the nipple many a time!

But now, I think we are not intended to drink milk after we are weaned.  As I said above, no other animal in the kingdom does it other than humans (or the creatures we “force” it on, such as cats).   I am not against it by any means, but I cannot find it fresh and unpasteurized where I live these days.  And when I don’t drink it for a while, the first few times I do consume it, it tears my stomach up for a few days.

But there is nothing quite like fresh-from-the-cow warm milk and honey just before bed time.  Miss those days...

It is past time for a relevant haiku:

Huh? Chocolate milk?

Obviously from brown cows.

Ten percent think so.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I am truly barbaric, I only drink 0% fat milk (commonly called "skimmed").  Back in the day, the family dairy didn't even think to sell that, but it is all I can drink now.  I do not like flavored milk at all.  The wife likes whole milk in her coffee.

O LAWD! You might as well just drink water!  YUK! 0% is terrible!!!! hahaha

My absolute favorite in coffee is a bit of heavy cream and honey - but i settle for 1/2 n 1/2 - whole if it's all I've got.  The divinity of milk is in it's fat!!

All I know that in the mornings, after a run, I love a glass of skim milk with a few cashews and some dark chocolate nonpareils which makes me wonder why I do not like drinking chocolate milk.  Now when I was young my father used to take me to a café when he went to have coffee with his friends, I would always get chocolate milk and then add creamer to it.  This might explain why I only drink skim now, had my fill of milk fat when I was eight.

Meaning no offense to those who buy "organic", but what does that even mean when it comes to milk? All milk is organic.

The differences come when discussing fat content and pasteurization.   The best tasting milk is fresh from the cow, cream in, no heat applied (IMO).  Can't buy that in stores, unfortunately, only direct from a dairy farm.

I tried to explain that to my wife.  No luck.  Although I do agree that for some reason, the organic fat free milk does seem to taste better than the alternative.

Organic means you pay more and the land produces less yield. Penn and Teller did an awesome story on it for their series one time
