Hey  Everyone.

I am looking at the fees for I-485 & Biometrics Fee, can someone help me confirm the total fees?

I-485 Fee = USD $1,140

Biometrics Fee = USD $85

I-485 fee includes fees for I-765 (EAD) and I-131 Travel, probably not needed...

I-131 is really only allowed for really good reasons right? You cannot use it to say oh I want to take a weekend trip to Canada or something like that? Must be for family/cultural/religious reasons? Or do they allow you to apply for that for tourist leisure trips?

Also should I separate the checks, 2 checks? Both checks made out to " U.S. Department of Homeland Security"

Memo: I-485 Application Fee

Memo: Biometrics Fee

Does that look good? THANK YOU!

Hi !

$1225 one check!

Make sure to review the requirements for how to write the One thousand two hundred and twenty five dollars (put in the "cents") the info is on the USCIS website.

Check is better than a money order because you can see when it was cashed.

I would apply for the advance parole.

I didn't and than regretted it and filed it later on.

It is used for leisure as well which i was unaware of at the time. The only issue you could have with the advance parole is if your i485 gets denied while you are out of country.. but this is rare timing wise.

I know people that travel on their advance parole all the time.  The AP will come on your EAD card as a combo card if you apply for it at the same time. And it doesnt cost anything additional if you apply while your i485 is pending.

You wanna also apply for the  I-765 (employment authorization) and the I-131 (Travel document or advance parole) because that way you can travel if you need to. Remember that GC is taking 1 year or so so you want to have the right document to travel if needed or the EAD (-131) if you have a job prospect.

The green card can take longer than 1 year depending on the state.

I originally thought i would have a green card in 1 year and that was the reason i didnt apply for advance parole but later found out my states processing times are 11.5 months to 32 months which is 2.7 years.

I would recommend applying for AP for sure.

I remember this girl at work telling me she did not apply for AP because she did not have any plan to travel abroad. So I told her the AP (and EAD) fee is waived when doing AOS, so why not doing it. I asked her what she would do if an emergency happens in he family and needs to travel back to Europe. OP, my GC took around 14 months to be approved. And this was back in 2013.

You wanna file i131 too in case GC processing is lengthened and you need ti travel. You can use AP for casual trips. Only those with other status like TPS and others will need some specific n serious reason to travel on AP.
