Medical, lymph nodes!

The most common cause of swollen lymph nodes is an infection, particularly a viral infection, such as the common cold. Other possible causes of swollen lymph nodes include:

Common infections

• Strep throat
• Measles
• Ear infections
• Infected (abscessed) tooth
• Mononucleosis
• Skin or wound infections, such as cellulitis
• Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) — the virus that causes AIDS

Uncommon infections

• Tuberculosis
• Certain sexually transmitted infections, such as syphilis
• Toxoplasmosis — a parasitic infection resulting from contact with the feces of an infected cat or eating undercooked meat
• Cat scratch fever — a bacterial infection from a cat scratch or bite

Immune system disorders

• Lupus — a chronic inflammatory disease that can target your joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, heart and lungs
• Rheumatoid arthritis — a chronic inflammatory disease that targets the tissue that lines your joints (synovium)

Cancers

• Lymphoma — cancer that originates in your lymphatic system
• Leukemia — cancer of your body's blood-forming tissue, including your bone marrow and lymphatic system
• Other cancers that have spread (metastasized ) to lymph nodes

Swollen Lymph nodes can be caused by a variety of things.

 

One purpose of the lymph system is immune system function (its working hard to keep you healthy). Lymph nodes (which are located all over the body) will become enlarged and swollen when fighting viruses or infections (which is the most common cause). It is an indicator the your body is working hard to fight something off).

Lymphoma would be a less common and extreme cause of enlarged lymph nodes.

 

I would not jump straight to this assumption until things like a common cold are ruled out. Haha.

I've had lymphoma 3 times. Each time I had a hell of a lot else going on besides swollen lymph nodes... If you just have swollen nodes, I wouldn't be too worried. 

 

But yeah, swollen lymph nodes can mean many different things, some relatively benign, others not so much.

Do you have other symptoms? A lymph node swelling could be due to several factors. TB being one of them if localised to nodes as opposed to the more virulent pulmonary kind. As millileman noted

This sheet scared me lol. I don't think I've any of these. Ive a prolapsed bladder (untreated) maybe its causing a UTI. Though ive no symptoms.

The part I can feel swelling has hairy surface, maybe we sebaceous glands? But my doctor said it swelling nothing else.

I had a few swollen lymph nodes for YEARS, and we could never figure out why they were swollen... no other symptoms, scans came back clean, etc. For the record, I also had my medical exam for IR-1 while they were swollen, and the doctor never mentioned the swelling -- that's not to say yours wouldn't, though.

 

When I got a doctor in the U.S., she insisted I have a full physical done. I had never had a physical, as they are not done where I come from in Canada. During the physical, my doctor found a chronic inner ear infection. The lymph nodes have gone down since treating it. (And it turns out I DID have another symptom, motion sickness, which has also cleared up). Anyways, it may be beneficial to go get a physical in case you are missing a hidden infection.

While I understand your concern, I would not give it too much importance. You can have a cold and have a swollen lymph node; you can have an ear infection and have a swollen lymph node; you can even have acne and have swollen lymph nodes! Sometimes, the body is trying to fight a little encounter with some virus we will never develop and the only thing you know (or feel) is a swollen lymph node. To be honest, touching upon a swollen lymph node is just going to make it worse, they clear up by themselves.

 

Moreover, you have to put the picture together. If it is for immigration, they will do blood testing or TB testing whatever to make sure you do not have the big infections. No one is going to really say anything because hey the guy does not have TB but there is a lymph node swollen on his neck per say. If your Dr. said it is ok, why trying to find something wrong with your health?

I think some of the tests done during the medical are just done to justify the fee charged. I had my eyesight tested. There's nothing in the rules that says that good eyesight is required. Although it does help with all the crazy paperwork 😂

Your answer was helpful and so reassuring!! Thanks 😍 and I was just a Lil worried I'm scared what if I won't clear up. I dont think ive something which can make me inadmissible.. By big infections you mean communicable diseases?
