Hi,

I'm a US citizen planning on filing a K1 Visa for my Filipina fiancee who is currently working as a nurse in Saudi Arabia. Her work contract ends this coming June (2018), which means she will be going back to the Philippines permanently until she flies (hopefully) to the US to be with me. My question is, I plan on starting the application process this month (January) while she is still in Saudi. Given that she will no longer be in Saudi 6 months from now, would it be smart for me to apply now given her future address change? Or should I wait until she goes back home? I guess I'm curious how the handoff process from one embassy to another (Saudi --> Philippines) would be handled, and how that would complicate the process. Has anyone been in a similar situation before? From what I know, the process takes approximately 6 months (of course this depends on a lot of factors).

Thanks!

On the Petition you input the Embassy that you want the interview.  Just put in Manila

As another has said just fill it out and out Manila as the consulate and location for the petition to go. This is a very common situation for Filipinos so don't worry.

Does she have her passport in hand? Or is her employer holding it?

Little trick they do to keep the person from leaving

Her employer has her passport, but as I've said, her contract officially ends in June in which case she'll be returning to her home country.

Will it be an issue? I'm new to all this so bear with me!

I guess if the process completes before her contract ends, she'll have no choice but to resign.

No it won't be an issue just tell her to get a KSA police clearance before she leaves the country

I agree that the simplest solution is to put Manila as the embassy. You can include a note that she will be changing her address in June...I'm not sure if they will care, but it's good to have it on the record.

Worst case is they send it to Riyadh anyway since that's her current address on the form. Then you just need to do an embassy transfer. See my signature for my our experience in doing this from Riyadh to Manila. It was a delay in the process (~2 weeks or so?), albeit quite small in the overall timeline.

Agreed...having it is good (although many times the employer will process this with the exit paperwork anyway).

That said, once the contract ends and she exits, she no longer has residence in KSA. As such, no police cert is actually required according to the reciprocity guide (and they didn't ask my now-wife for it at the interview in USEM). We had it just in case, and I highly suggest doing the same, but technically it's not required for a non-KSA national who does not live in KSA.

Thank you, good sir. I was reading the timeline on your sig. I'm curious, was your then-fiancee already in Manila when the case was received at the Riyadh embassy? I'm just trying to get a good grasp on what I should do in case this happens to me.

Thanks for the input, that makes sense. Worst case scenario -- what if her interview in Manila would be scheduled before June? What happens then? Just trying to think ahead. Thanks for your help.

If you submit the petition today you are likely looking at at least August or after for approval of the petition and then another 1-2 months for Manila.  You can delay the interview because you schedule it yourself.  You are worried for nothing as it relates to June

Thanks!

Back in the late 1980 to mid 1990 there was a major shortages of nurses in the US. The Medical Center I was on staff at brought over about a dozen nurses from the Phiilipines. These were some of the best nurses we had. Smart, patient centered, caring, and very easy to work with. She will be a good addition to the US.

Is does sound reasonable to use address for the embassy/consulate at which the interview will take place.

My wishes that this goes well for you both,

She was about to exit KSA soon at the time. The process at KSA requires gathering various documents and sending them to the embassy, then waiting about a month for them to schedule the interview, then give it a few weeks for them to complete processing and issue the visa (assuming everything went well). She was going to be complete with her work contract and exit within that timeframe, so we requested the change of embassy. She was not yet in PH at the time, but did reestablish residence there before the interview (she didn't just interview at USEM then go back to KSA).
