Agreed, either way is fine, it really depends on the cost.  If you do go for a round-trip ticket make sure you put the return date out as long as the airlines allow (~6 months) and make sure you mark your calendar and cancel the return leg when it comes time.  I could be wrong, but even canceled, the ticket credit is still good for a period of time (maybe a year) so for a fee, you can use that for a future trip.  In our case, we did a round trip as it was cheaper at the time, we put the return leg at the maximum which was 6 months, canceled that when the time came, and about 2 months later after my now wife received her GC we took a trip back to see our family and was able to use the credit from the initial flight.

Good Luck!

That question should be a sticky at the top of the forum.

Whatever is cheaper honestly. As you have already noticed the discrepancies between a round trip and a one way are not that much in regards to price. So some people just choose a round trip ticket because it's cheaper some times, while other people just want the one way ticket. It is all up to your discretion. But the thing you have to realize is that if you choose a round trip ticket when your fiance gets here then cancel the remaining portion of that trip.

Thank you for this post, I don't know if it has changed in 2 years, I will just get a one way to save money. I just got off the phone with United Airlines and she wasn't sure about a one way ticket but recommended a RT the difference in price was $800. If I get a RT ticket I will do that with Asiana Airlines they have a open ended ticket for a year and they are only a couple hundred more then the one way.

Congratulations you must be so excited, I'm just waiting on her passport then the sticker from the Philippine government. How much was your ticket if you don't mind me asking?

I should have enough miles with PAL to book a one way.

I just got back from Manila yesterday, I know I shouldn't have gone and saved money, but it is hard being so far away, and it was a great excuse to be there with her and for her during the interview

It was just slightly more than 50% of the RT fare

That is true, I was surprise about the interview went, I envisioned a room where you go in and sit and talk. But it was just window tellers and they have about 70 people for each time slot, it was more like a factory or a drive through.

Was your previous interviews you were part of done in the open with a window?

My first interview at the USEM you had a private room for each K1 interview, and the CO was then behind a window

Just when you think you have TDS eradicate,  a new case shows up.
