I'd say it surprises me that some people in a migration forum would be so harsh to other migrants especially those who lost their lives, but it makes sense. We are struggling while we follow the legal process, spending a lot of money and time apart of our loved ones, while others ''just cross the border''  I understand the''that person is cutting in line and it's unfair'' mentality but don't let those ugly feelings govern you entirely. Even though I don't condone ilegal immigration, I try to put myself in their shoes and try to understand the desperation that drives them to attempt incredibly dangerous actions like these. Running from war, extreme poverty, hunger, missing their loves ones. In the end we are all human and our most primal, basic instinct is to try to find shelter, food, stability and happiness. This is beyond tragic nonetheless.

Respect for another country is evident in following their laws and customs.

The same culture that is most prevalent in illegally immigrating also shows contempt for the American flag (IN the United States), contempt for American laws, shows excessive reverence for their former country (the wonderful motherland they fled), demands being catered to more than anyone else in spite of their disrespect. I'm absolutely done feeling bad for people who illegally immigrate through the southern border, especially given the ties it now has to terrorism. I hope others see the immense obstacles facing illegals and second guess disrespecting the US by trying to evade lawfully immigrating.

I truly understand why you feel this way, and like I've said, I don't support ilegal immigration and I see the negative repercussions of it, I'm just as affected. But I'm just talking as human beings. Having empathy for someone else without thinking of the world in black and white, without man-made borders and rules. Many of them didn't follow said rules but they are trying to make a better life for themselves, which is a basic, human impulse. You can be against something and still feel bad when people die. Most of these are hard working, decent humans that happened to make a big mistake and break immigration laws, they're not going around killing puppies.  I'm confused about what terrorism you're talking about though, regarding the southern border.

Respect goes both ways. Even us following the legal route face extra scrutiny, and many are treated poorly because we are still non white immigrants,  even if we've never disrespected the U.S and their laws.

this is so sad, morally reprehensible. and it doesn't matter to me in the slightest if he was deported under obama (who, contrary to all the 'obama encouraged illegals' deported more than any admin before him) or trump.

One of the undocumented immigrants who died in a stifling tractor-trailer here this weekend was a 19-year-old who lived in the United States and graduated from high school in Northern Virginia before being deported to his native Guatemala, according to interviews with government officials and postings on social media.

Frank G. Fuentes was one of three Guatemalan nationals on a truck packed with undocumented immigrants and driven by James Matthew Bradley Jr., said Cristy Andrino, the consul of Guatemala in McAllen, Tex. Fuentes previously had lived in Virginia, Andrino said.

The Guatemalan government said Fuentes, who was initially described as 20-years-old, died of “heat exposure and asphyxiation.” Bradley has been charged with smuggling immigrants for financial gain resulting in death.

A Facebook page belonging to Fuentes, which was getting tagged with condolence messages on Tuesday, said he graduated from J.E.B. Stuart High School in Fairfax County in 2015. A school system official confirmed that a student by that name graduated that year.

“He was caring and such a friendly person,” said fellow Stuart attendee Chris Garcia in a Facebook message. “He just wanted to [live] his life here.”

It is interesting the types of people the Regressives put on their posters.

This is the thing though my husband and I were talking about the other night...  for a lot of these people they are in desperate situations. We offer little to no legal pathway for those people to enter the country legally. So they feel they have no other option but to save up and put their money and their lives in the hands of a coyote to get in. Imagine if we did offer an actual legal pathway for them to enter in the first place. They obviously do have some money, and likely if they had the option to not put their lives in danger, live in the shadows etc they'd be more apt to follow the process legally - so the fees for paperwork shouldn't be too much trouble right? Why can't we reform the system and make it work?

I suppose then the question becomes WHY should we?  Are we to be every country's savior?  I really don't know overall.  I'm on the fence.
