So it says Given names in IV application in Jordan names are different than they are in the US.

in Jordan your full name is "First name + Father's first name + Grandfather's first name + Family name" so what should we write in Given names?

Given name = your first name

Middle name = any other name that's not your first name or family name

Last name = your family name

Your given names would be first name, father’s name and grandfather’s name. Just going off observation and what we use on this side of the world.

No, middle name is not any other name that's not your first name......don't confuse him. Some countries don't have middle names. For example in some countries there are patronymic names instead of middle names, but they are not the same stuff.

They aren't the same but they function on documents as a middle name. Obviously the cultural meaning is different but names don't have a cultural meaning in the US, they are mostly used for identification purposes and that's all.

 

OP, I would put your given name(s) as what people call you by. Do people call you with one name only? Do they call you by two names (i.e. John Paul)? Put whatever you want to be called as your 'given names'.

What does your international passport hold? If it has only your first name, put only first name there. Your green card will have  all the names you will list in your IV application. It is better if it matches your passport. For example I put only my first name (given name) and my last name when I filled my IV application . I omitted my father's name  and put NMN or N/A in the line where it asked  for middle name because my international passport didn't list all the names.

People call me by one name but when the NVC and USCIS sent my the NOA2 and they wrote it like this "My last name, First name + Fathers name."

Not at all. It is because someone choses to substitute them. I put NMN initially and in each application I had ever filled out.

For the DS-260, you should put whatever matches your passport. This is the name they will use on the visa. Many COs will "fix" errors with this if it's incorrect because they know the system and local culture, but it's not something you want to have to rely on.

 

The DS-260 requests a Given Name and Surname. Given name is all given names. Surname is the family name. In the OP's case, I would suggest:

 

Given Name: First name Fathers name Grandfathers name

Surname: Family Name
