I've read stories on VJ of IOs telling couples they've been approved at the end of the interview, but don't get upset if that doesn't happen.  We got handed a piece of paper saying they were "unable to make a decision at that time" and our case was being "continued," which really freaked us out.  Then we got an approval notice 4 days later dated the day of the interview, and when we got his green card his residency begin date was the date of the interview.   The IO must have known he was going to approve us when he gave us that piece of paper, he just didn't say anything.

Yeah I have seen a lot of that, with the white paper saying we will make a decision soon, a few of my friends had it, and got approved 2-10 days later

that’s what I’m expecting to receive, not getting my hopes up

I decided to call the USCIS today to find out which field office our case is at considering we have heard absolutely nothing in 243 days. Not even an update saying our case is ready to be scheduled for interview - which I expected having read previous comments here... Turns out our local office is working on JULY cases. Err.. what happened to OUR case which was filed in MAY!? So of course a service request has been filed for out of processing times.. Now another 30 day wait. As you can imagine I am already miffed about having been completely overlooked so to have to wait another 30 days to receive a letter telling me what I already know and that there IS no update.. has me spitting feathers. This system is so disorganized and unfair. Now I am worried that we have an RFE despite providing every shred of information and evidence we had, AND that they have just not bothered to tell me and instead have waited to see how long they can sit on it before they can just throw the case out ‘because I didn’t provide what they asked for’ (but actually didn’t).

Has anyone else here had/got a case at the Montgomery, AL office?

I am so frustrated :(

Hi,

Just wanted to make sure I am posting in the correct thread.

It says our I-485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR ADJUST STATUS was received May 2, 2017.

My wife received her EAD/AP card, and shortly after our interview was on December 14, 2017.

We are in CT, and went to Hartford.  How long is it going to take before we receive a decision?  I heard some people taking 2 weeks......  Our interview agent said she would try to get to our case over the Christmas/New Year's break, but now we're over 30 days past our interview and nothing.

I enter her MSC # into the USCIS Case Status and still get this:

On November 8, 2017, we scheduled you for your interview and mailed you an interview notice for Receipt Number MSCxxxxxxxx. Your interview is on December 14, 2017. Please follow the instructions in the notice. If you do not receive your interview notice by December 8, 2017, please go to www.uscis.gov/e-request to request a copy of the notice. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address.

Hi,

We have very similar timelines - we applied May 11 and also had our interview on December 14 in Hartford!  At the end of the interview they gave us a piece of paper saying the case was being "continued," which meant that they were making a decision and we could file a SR after 120 days.  We got our approval notice a week later and he now has his green card.

It sounds like all you can do is wait.  The IO was probably just busy with the holidays and may not even be back from vacation yet, who knows.  Were there any questions that concerned you/the IO during the interview?  What country is your wife from?

Good luck!

Have you called USCIS? Then ask them to transfer you to Tier 2 (because you want to expedite your case, since it's outside the processing time). Try to get at least a confirmation number for a call back from Tier 2. The Tier 2 can expedite your case.

Hi there,

Did you have to deal with the snow on the way to the USCIS location?  We arrived 20min late but it was no problem as they saw us anyway.

My wife comes from Chile.  Originally entered on an H1B1 (I think).  Overstayed.  But then we were married in April and started the application process right away.  We used a lawyer who helped to make sure all our documents were in order.  Because she entered the country legally to begin with, we were told there shouldn't be any problems at all.

No questions during the interview that concerned me.  Everything was very straightforward, and the IO said she didn't see anything that stood out in our case, and that she'd try to get to it over the break between Xmas and New Years.  She showed us the other cases she had to get through ahead of us, and it looked like there were about 10 of them.

Thanks for the info about your timeline.  I know they're all different.  Your husband comes from the UK I take it?

Yes I called USCIS today and spoke to a Tier 1 Officer.. I am not after the case being expedited because I already have my EAD.. I just don’t understand why they’re working on July cases but somehow ours has been overlooked. I didn’t even know which field office our case was at, which I now know. I am hoping that the service request will get the case dealt with and I am also hoping that we will now not have to have an interview because of their oversight. We’ll see.. it is just frustrating to call and be told that they have somehow gone 2 months past our case date without so much as scheduling an interview or even updating the case as ready to be scheduled..

Oh, but I think the Tier 1 officer just repeats and access the same info we can access online, isn't it? That's why I thought it would be a good idea to request to talk to a Tier 2 level officer. But maybe you did that already.

I thought the same but the Tier 1 told me my case is in Montgomery and sent over a SR so I am hoping that the SR will get them to sort it out and get a move on with it since they are 2 months past our file date.. I will update as I hear more info

Green card approval notice received in the mail today!  It was dated December 14, the day of our interview, which was a Thursday afternoon and we received it Monday...they must have really moved quickly to get it in the mail that quickly!

Hoping against hope that he might get the card in the mail before Christmas, but if not, what a great way to start 2018!

Your interview was pretty quick, on the website it says that they are processing cases for of January 17 for Hartford

Yay! Just received the AOS interview letter in the mail, its scheduled for Jan 28 in Orlando. For those that already had their interviews, do we need to bring the Birth Certificate for the beneficiary to the interview even though one was submitted with the I-485 application? The NOA letter says to bring the medical/vaccines Form I-693 and Affidavit of Support Form I-864 UNLESS ALREADY SUBMITTED, but how about the Birth Certificate?

Lucky you! I know a few Feb and March filers have not received any interview notice yet even they're out of processing time. Did you make any SR or Infopass? Please share, thanks. Waiting for your good news.

Actually no for the I-485. We did 2 SR for work permit/adv parole, one online and the second one calling in. The petition for my wife has been approved since, but we're still waiting on the approval of the daughter's petitions.
