Ah so sorry! I thought you were in CA as your city in San Jose. TX has a section for AOS applicants on page 3 here: https://www.dps.texas.gov/DriverLicense/documents/verifyingLawfulPresence.pdf

A bit more unclear than the CA document. Maybe try taking that in with that section highlighted? :)

We are in Texas and going through the renewal process now. They will accept the pending i-485. It just takes longer to verify the documents. Once you convince a DPS employee that you have acceptable documents, then they have to go through a lengthy verification process. We just got confirmation today that the documents were verified (after about 8 business days) and that we can now go back to the DPS office to complete the renewal application.

it helps to take a copy of the Texas rule from the Texas DPS web site that shows the i-797C for pending i-485 is acceptable. It’s harder for them to argue with their own documents...

Update on my case.

After the interview I got a letter asking me to show that my vaccination records have been completed.

Mit was a hassle at the doctor’s office sine the letter from USCIS stated that not the full medical exam was needed. They tried to insist I get the full medical done but with documentation from the instructions of USCIS after 4 hours I got the sealed envelope with just the updated vaccination records.

Yesterday I got text messages that my card is in production. Total process took 16 months.

I’m so happy. Just in time for my EAD expiration since that case hasn’t moved at all ever since I sent in the renewal application.

We applied for EAD/AP renewal 5 months ago and haven’t received our either. We did biometrics in May 2017, and we’ve been stuck at “we are scheduling your interview” since July 2017.

We did an infopass appointment last week, and they told us EAD renewals are taking about 7 months.

There is an automatic 180-day extension for EAD but not for AP.

i applied for renewal for both EAD and AP and my combo card expired July 28. I traveled out of the country for work for 2 weeks and returned after the expiration date. i wanted to show my combo card and the NOA that shows i applied for extension. the customs officer didn't even want to look at the NOA. they didn't ask or say anything, the process was identical to other times when I returned after travel. this was at JFK.

i'm not sure what the deal is with extension not applying to AP (i know it says so on the NOA), but it didn't seem to be a problem for me.

You were able to come back to the US with an expired Combo Card?

yes. like i said in my original post, i came back and landed at JFK after my expiration date. i had my renewal notice, but they didn't even look at it. i went thru the normal process i usually go to with Advance Parole (you go to a separate room at the airport and wait until someone checks your passport and combo card). no questions asked. entrance granted as usual. fyi, i've traveled a lot in and out of the country since i moved her - my job requires a lot of international travel, so i must have gone through the advance parole check 6-7 times in the last year and a half.

You got an interview scheduled? That’s big news. Maybe it means they’ve started processing new applications again. Our NOA is about a week after yours, so I’ll start holding my breath...

It sounds like CBP was somehow aware of your pending AP renewal. Wouldn't it be nice if, as long as you have a pending extension, you could simply travel on an expired AP without having to carry your NOA letter as a matter of policy? This is actually a rare example of USCIS playing nice with other agencies despite its inability to promptly process EAD/AP renewal applications!

Hi everyone, I’m sooo glad I found this group. I am in Houston and I started my AOS April 2017.

When I try to check my case I-485 online. It says.

At this time USCIS cannot provide you with information for your case.

has anyone got this before.
