Emotions Run High After Reported Rape at Rockville High School

The usually civil political discourse in Montgomery County turned aggressive over the weekend as residents who oppose the county’s liberal policy toward undocumented immigrants angrily emerged in reaction to the brutal alleged rape of a Rockville High School freshman girl by 17- and 18-year-old recent Central American immigrants.

“People are angry, people are nervous, people are concerned,” County Council President Roger Berliner said Monday morning during his weekly press conference. “I’ve gotten some very ugly emails accusing us of being a sanctuary county.”

The county and City of Rockville for many years have had a policy in place that directs their police officers not to ask about an individual’s immigration status during interactions. However, the county and city both share information about individuals who are arrested with federal agencies such as the FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in case those agencies have pending issues with the individuals. This policy, according to county officials, is different from true sanctuary jurisdictions that don’t cooperate with federal immigration agencies.

Obviously this was a horrific event. Just as obviously there will be more than a few here who will take this relatively rare crime based on the status of the alledged perpetrators and try to make believe that Donald Trump is absolutely justified in all his bigotry and disgusting prejudice. After all, they share those attitudes with him.

I am sure the victim is fine with the fact that she is a victim of a rather rare crime.

I sincerely doubt that the victim of any such crime is 'fine' with it. The crime of rape is altogether not rare enough, but the status of the two alledged purps in your OP doesn't really change anything nor does it justify the blanket bigotry of Donald Trump.

So if an illegal alien is not allowed in the country this crime doesn't happen.  I don't know about you, but eliminating one major act of violence against another individual is worth a little extra scrutiny at the border.

But keep your filthy hands off your guns, right? Sorry, everyone should be upset about this incident. Nobody should use the status of the alledged assailants to make blanket bigotted opinions regarding Hispanics chic and acceptable.

Isn't this done all the time?  A nasty crime occurs and people take sides whether or not all the facts are known.  Heck BLM began based on a lie once all the facts were known.  The point of the original story was to show how if a strengthening of the border and a reduction in illegal immigration would have a potential impact on crime.  When an illegal alien does commit a heinous crime, it appears those that espouse stronger immigration enforcement would have a point.  We see the same thing every time a heinous gun crime occurs, the MDL says that gun laws need to be strengthened if only to prevent one of these acts.  The logic is the same here.

The significant difference in your analogy is the lack of logic. The same day, yesterday, a terrorist attack in London killed the same number of people as yet another gun related domestic violence incident in Wisconsin. The difference is you have to go back to 2005 for a decent terrorist incident in England while likely dozens have suffered gun violence just since the barrels cooled in Wisconsin here in the US.

 

People who tout the rare incidents such as in the OP where Hispanic illegals or semi-illegals (obviously the two boys were attending high school not living in the shadows) allegedly committed a horrible crime, one all too common amongst US citizens, as proof that a total ban and 100% impenetrable wall would prevent much of anything defies logic.

 

Perhaps you will be immune to what I am saying, but gun violence happens all the time. Terrorist attacks in the US or England relatively rarely, ditto illegal immigrants being the perpetrators of violent crime. Yet gun advocates tend to express an inexplicable amount of concern over the latter two events, while minimizing the former. The logic is really not the same.
