I  got a call back from USCIS today and they told me that I am not in the system yet, which makes me wondering if the mailman ony forgot to scan my documents or if my package got lost somewhere between Atlanta and Chicago. The man on the phone told me to wait another one or two weeks and if I haven't received anything from them until March 21st, I should call them again.

It can be frustrating, yes, but it's how the process goes. You really should wait a little longer. As for them receiving the paperwork, if you sent it by UPS then it's trackable. Have you not confirmed the package was delivered?

UPS track all of their domestic packages. OP could try and get a hold of someone at customer service, explaining the situation and details. This also is a good reminder to always keep the receipts or ask extra for tracking when it comes to packages send to the USCIS.

We actually don't have a tracking number. My husband denied when the guy at the UPS store asked him if he wants to track the package.I am super mad at my husband.

. The only thing my husband was told is that USCIS should get the package by the end of the week( February 24th).

Becci, breathe and relax - if you'll take some advice from a fellow German - otherwise the remainder of your USCIS dealings will give you an Ulcer.

 

It is very, very rare for mail to actually get lost. It is not going to happen to you twice.

 

Let's say they received the packaged on Feb 24th. today is only the 8th working day after that. Receiving a NOA-1 can take a month, I have seen cases where it took 6 weeks. The waiting times seem to have gotten longer. It is irrelevant if you see notices from people who filed around the same days as you, sadly USCIS does not go in perfect order. 

 

Set yourself a deadline of, say 4 weeks from likely receipt. Forget about the case until then. Intermittently check your bank account to see if the check clears. This means you have about 3 more weeks to go.

 

If nothing happens, then reach out to USCIS again.

Whatever you do, do not file again! It is WAY to early, by at least a month to make a judgement on lost mail - which, again, is very, very rare.

And get tracking numbers in the future.

Than you for cheering me up a little bit. I am just worried because it happened to us when we filed for my K1 visa. We haven't had problems with UPS so far but I somehow think that the package got lost in the mail somewhere.

Believe me, I was so mad at my husband for not getting a tracking number. I guess I have to play the waiting game a little longer...

Does it affect my status here in the US? My stamp in the passport expires on April 15th. I am a little worried about that too.

No. As long as you married within the 90 days you are fine staying here. Lots of people file after the visa expires, me included.

Your visa expires the moment you have port of entry. The expiration date on the visa has nothing to do with filing or your status inside the US. You have to enter the US before the expiration date shown on visa.

You are fine, a lot of people are either not able to file straight away within the 90 days or choose to wait to get all their information together. Some people even wait years! Overstay is forgiven when going through AOS through a spouse, but it does mean that until you get the NOA1 you are out of status. Don't let this worry you so much, I was out of status for a few months before we filed. It's really very early on in the process to lose so much sleep over this. I'd wait it out at least a few weeks more before following up with USCIS to see if they have now received your package.

Hi, i did sent mine on february 15 and still nothing i will try to call tomorrow but i am no that worried about it since you are married you dont have to worried for the visa we got married february 11 amd my visa expired february 16 I dont have tracking number either because we just send it with stamps

FYI, fellow atlantan here. You do not need your work permit for DL, just ss# and I94 or 797

My I-94 expires in 5 weeks.

I'm still waiting for my I-797 from my Green Card application...haven't heard anything from USCIS since I sent the paperwork on February 21st.
