Traveling locally with a pending I-485 case

I reside in Texas and me and my wife are planning on traveling to Virginia. She has a pending I-485 and I-765. Her I-94 and K-1 visa in her passport are expired. Would she face any trouble at the airport due to not having any document or would it not be a problem because she has a pending case. I know that all you need is a photo ID to travel locally and she does has a valid unexpired passport. I would appreciate any info to help. I'm kind of worried and hesitant to travel because I don't want any issues.

Local travel does not trigger immigration status questions. In any case, once she started the AOS she is technically in status while it is being adjudicated.

Carry the NOA1 as proof of legal status and you should be fine. They probably won't check it, but it's good to have. If she has a current driver's license, then that would be good to take with you as well.

I always play it safe.  It's a long drive but that would avoid having to show any identification at any airports.  In fact the drive could be a learning experience and vacation-like event.  Might just be fun?

Considering your country I would be concerned. My husband was picked out of a line at the airport for a connecting

domestic flight and asked if he is a USC.

He said no. Then they told him to show prof of being here legally.

This was at a connecting flight in Texas. We had his EAD/AP combo card, the AOS NOA1, his DL, passport and marriage certificate

with us. That was before the crazy travel ban. Another travel ban is coming out any day now.
If you end up with a confused agent you may not like the outcome. It is no longer safe to travel domestic with only a photo ID !

I traveled from TX to NY right after I married and used my passport with no problem. I carried a copy of the NOA1 just in case, but I never needed it. In theory you should be fine, but without wanting to fall into fearmongering, things right now ARE weird so you might face some weird moments. Overall, worst that can happen in my opinion is that some agent decides for whatever reason to make you life harder and will her up with silly questions, but she IS in the system as if everything has been done right, she should be ok in the end.

I'm sure it's in the news because of the recent events/executive order, but I've seen CBP control points like this before:

Bring your documents.

No, it was last year (I forgot to mentino that, sorry). I will on the 12th though, but I have my Green Card already.  I think it'll be fine, but it might be unpleasant.

I traveled from DC to Salt Lake City in October 2016 while my AOS was pending. I was really worried about having issues at the airport. Brought all the documents I had, NOA1, passport, marriage certificate etc. Didn't have to show anything, except the passport of course, but they didn't look at my visa or asked any questions. Probably a good idea to have your documents with you though, made me feel better at least in case they were to ask you anything.
