no one is denying that, in fact - that figure is in the op. guessing you didn't read it. the friggin point is that TRUMP IS PROJECTED TO COST HUNDREDS MILLIONS MORE 96 mill over 8 years. the hypocrisy is allllll yours. i know i've read you whine about michelle and her daughters going on vacation to africa. but scratch that - we're not talking about vacations. we talking about the logistics of protecting the president while he travels. are you saying that trump has no control over these costs?

Lets do some math! I know numbers are scary, but you can do it!

Multiply that cost by eight years, and taxpayers have paid in the range of $35 million to $40 million — at a minimum — for the first family’s tropical vacations. "

 

That is a quote from the Hawaii Christmas vacation article you posted. 4.8 million dollars for his 17 day trip.

 

4.8 divided by 17 = 280,000 dollars per day for Obama's Christmas holidays

 

Now we don't have real numbers for Trump's weekends but the quotes I've seen have been 2-4 million. So lets go with 2 million (low ball it).

 

2 million divided by 2 = 1 million per day for a weekend getaway for trip, of which he has taken 3 (so 6 days) so far.

 

Lets assume he is going to Florida to escape the cold weather, so it is a winter thing. So say he plans to go to Florida on weekends for the months of November - March. Lets say 18 weekends. 72 weekends in a 4 year term. God forbid he goes to 8 years which will make 144 weekends.

 

If he spends 144 weekends in Mar-A-Lago at 2 million dollars per weekend (the lower end of the estimates I've seen), he will spend 288 million dollars in 8 years. Now that is assuming he takes no "extended" holidays beyond weekends. Just the weekends alone would be almost 3 times (2.9x) more than Obama did for all of his travel in 8 years.

 

EDIT: If the 10 million for 3 weekends number from the OP's article is true, we would be talking 480 million dollars in 8 years. Also again assuming he only goes for 18 weekends out of the year to his "Winter White House". Also not including the costs of maintaining NYC for his wife and child while he is in DC. Also not including the costs to protect his children when they go on business trips. Also not including vacations longer than weekends.

At the rate trump is going his vacation expenditures will far surpass Obama's. 8 years of Obama Christmas vacations cost $35 mil. trumps already up to $10 mil just this past month. 

Big difference is personally benefiting from the hotel costs...of which he has lied about separating himself from. Security detail for 4 grown children and a separate residence for the last, Of which Obama had only 2 who lived at the same residence a large majority of his presidency.  

I could hardly stand to watch his press conference he told so many lies and contradicted himself so much.  Yes, the hypocrisy is simply amazing. ?

I've said it often, but I'm pretty sure the line markings on his road have been repainted to the right to troll him, and he hasn't noticed yet. Or he includes the right sidewalk as "road", so that the middle is skewed.

All I'm saying is that being President has perks whether I like it or not. If there is fraud or abuse involved for such expenses, then it should be investigated. I personally don't get fired up when comparing which President spends more, because they all do (some are better at it than others). I didn't vote for either party, and I like how President Trump speaks his mind. But as the President of the US,  you cannot do that on the national/international stage. It makes you look the fool.

Ya I agree the President should enjoy perks. And yes every President will vary here and there.

 

I would however call out a President who spends 3x+ more than his predecessor.
