it's chump change for an american worker, but then again so is minimum wage (not a living wage at all). why bring in workers from the philippines to do migrant fruit picking? that's a lot of travel cost.

fyi, here they do not at all get paid minimum wage. they get paid by the bushel.

They have to bring them in from some country.  Whether they come from Honduras or Mexico or Philippines travel cost will be about the same.  Remember they must hire non US citizens and prove they can't find US workers to fill the jobs.

? and they do bring them in from some country. travel from honduras/mexico is not the same as the phillippines. and you don't have to 'prove' you can't find workers to fill the jobs, not when the jobs have customarily been filled by migrant workers. not the same process as hb1 for tech, industry..

Correct,  I am an American. I don't travel abroad looking for working picking fruits and vegetables.

I don't own fields of apples or other grown items, Guilty as charged

I have pretty good grasp on wages for seasonal workers or H1B.  Per the law they must be paid the going amount.  I would assume fruit pickers make minimum wage or just above.    You call it chump change, they call it making a lot of  money.  Bring in some people from the Philippines to pick fruits.

A registered Nurse only makes $8 per day, they would stand in line for miles to get a chance to make 8 to 10x that amount in USA and send it back home.

So now you want people from a certain country to pick tomatoes here ?

For $8 an hour will they make their beds right in the tomatoes and eat tomatoes

all day long while they send money home ? I mean what else could they afford here on that wage ?
Maybe Trump can bring people in from the PI to build his wall and he can pay them in tomatoes ?

I'm almost done....my favorite time of year, not. Hoping to send it to the accountant by the end of the month. Usually she would already have it but we're a little late to the party this year

April 13th, FTW.  I rarely file prior to April 10th, and always file paper. :)

Oh I don't normally file till April either. But being self employed makes things complicated so we send it to our accountant in January and then usually go back and forth with her on certain questions/info she needs and get it back from her to mail to the IRS in April. It's a long drawn out process lol
