3. Hard-copy NOA dated November 25th.  This is the date we used for our VJ timeline.

4. NOA1 arrived in the mail on November 28th.  We don't use this date for anything, but we celebrated when it arrived.

Received date: November 21st 2016

Probably would cause mass confusion at first but think the VJ mods should consider switching the timelines to be based on receive dates instead of NOA hard copy dates since that's what the USCIS app uses. This NOA1 action date vs. receive date seems to cause a lot of confusion on here. Anyway just my opinion.

It's definitely confusing. USCIS received your application on 11/21/16; that's the date that the iPhone USCIS Case Tracker app (a third party app) and the official USCIS website appears to use to track your case. The Notice Date is the date of the NOA-1, for you 11/25/16, as used on the VJ timeline website.

 

But who knows? My NOA-1 date is 11/16, my received date is 11/14. The USCIS app and website both said my receipt date is 11/14. When I received my NOA-2, it says my receipt date was 11/16. So it's all a wash, in the end, in terms of +/- a couple days. But NOA-1 for VJ timeline purposes is 11/25 for you.

There is a reason for that. They are actual different dates. 

 

Receive date is when it was physically received. My understanding is NOA1 hardcopy date is when the package was opened, processed, and sent to CSC. For example, my package was received on 19th but it wasn't opened and processed until 29th. Believe it or not there is rhyme or reason to these dates USCIS uses.

Oh I totally agree with you. I just meant to say, my I-129F receipt date is 11/14, my NOA-1 is 11/16. But when I received my NOA-2, on the line for "Receipt Date", it says 11/16. So I sort of neither know nor care about how they decide what your date is, since having the general idea of what dates are being processed and whether you actually get an NOA-2 in the mail are the important bits.

That happened to me as well.  Never got an email/text for the NOA2, only got a email/text for the NOA1.  I did get my hard paper NOA2 notice in the mail.  This is not uncommon.
