So while my hubby is pending AOS docs , anything we can do? in term of job, school, anything that will have him not stay without doing anything all day? he's not used to that and it gets me worried, any advice, experiences would be appreciated.

He can get his resume together, start putting a plan in action for his job search, start searching for jobs and making a list of who is hiring and maybe contact them when is is legal to work. Make contact with groups in your area that are from Haiti for a support group and also for networking. No reason to wait until the EOD comes in. Get ready now. I am sure there is plenty for him to do around the home. Have him get up every morning, take a shower, get dressed like he is going to work. Get in that mind set.

Just my two cents.

God Bless

I did volunteer work and internship ( work without pay to feel how it is here and I liked it ), in this way you are building your references too , learn and do good deeds at the same. I am enrolled in online class too, short courses to broaden my skills.

School is an option, but you might need to pay nonresident tuition for now at a college. Look for adult community schools (usually at local high schools) that offer classes. Joan started taking classes three days after she arrived in America.

My fiance is planning on doing volunteer work in his desired field while he waits. He wants to be a veterinarian so working in an animal shelter not only keeps him busy but helps him gain experience for later one when he applies to work for real.

Prepare for removing conditions. Start collecting everything that indicates a merging of your financial and personal lives and throw it into a box. Come ROC time, you'll have more than enough to submit as evidence.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Thanks TBone, I actually saw a previous post of yours stating as such and we started doing just that, like utility bills and bank letters, plane tickets and else, put them all in a folder and we'll keep it growing . That will save us a lot of headache for then :)

My husband got his TX DL about a month after his arrival, and we are glad we did that. It's been expired for about a month now because they only allowed the time on his I-94, but it's better than using his foreign passport all the time. We enrolled him in two community college courses and that's helped him get used to how American classes work and kept him busy waiting for the EAD/AP.

You may also check out this resource: https://www.universalclass.com/ We enrolled him in it, but I am going to take a few classes too. My husband hasn't finished a course on here, but the annual option is reasonable and it has a broad range of topics. My guy started on the US government and that really helped him prepare for his state government class. They also have preparation for the civics test for naturalization and math classes to brush up any rusty skills too!

Oh.. so we can apply for DL? Is it going to be only until my visa expires then? Still would be great to have an American ID at least for a bit :) Do you have to pass all the tests or if you have DL from your country you don't have to? Thanks.

You cant do volunteer work that someone would be otherwise paid for or that offers boons (food, etc) instead of money.
