I know, it makes me so angry when the government acts like our country is some kind of exclusive country club instead of a place which should be available for any decent person to live!

I felt that way even before I had a boyfriend from another country and I'm twice as angry now that I'm on the receiving end of their draconian laws and realize it's even worse than I thought!

Here's a topic for you to read, to understand how difficult it is for someone from Morocco to come. Granted the circumstances in this following case are extreme, but it should help for you to understand:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/575286-help-me-please-im-very-sick-on-this-merged-threads/page-1?hl=+tourist%20+visa%20+morocco

When my husband and I were first involved, we skyped with each others families in order for them to get to know one another. He came here sight unseen after he received his CR-1 visa. Unfortunately, most Moroccans won't qualify to get a tourist visa, as there has been too much fraud from that country in the past. He would have to show on his own that he can support a trip and that he would return to Morocco. I'm not trying to discourage you, all of us on here have had long separations from our loved ones.

It is really sad that regulations can keep someone away from their loved ones in times of need such as in the link that was posted above! It made me so sad but it also made me grateful that at least my significant other and I are both healthy and happy!

It gives me strength to see all of the people on here who have endured lengthy separations from our loved ones and succeeded in becoming reunited in the end! :D

I do think that Morocco looks like a beautiful place and I look forward to visiting there and being able to meet all of his family in Morocco. I have become close with my boyfriends little 3 year old sister and I am also friends with a cousin of his who lives in Sale City. I text with her quite often and we are good friends now. So I'm looking forward to meeting all of his family in person, of course.

However, I have a lot of responsibilities at home which I can't really take a break from. I am caring for my ill mother and also cooking and doing the housework which my mom can't do any more so that my dad has home-cooked meals and everything still. I also have a pet dog of my mom's as well as my own pet birds and chickens which I have to feed, exercise, clean up after, etc... daily. When I think of what would happen if I was gone for a week or two it makes my head spin.

Also I guess if I'm being honest with myself I'm a little bit terrified about the prospect of traveling to a foreign land where I don't speak the language and hardly know anybody. :P I'm not sure that I'm cut out for an international relationship lol... I do love him a great deal though and I feel like if we can get past all the hassle of travel, visas, and everything we can have a really happy life together! I'm just not sure how to get to that point... I'm an optimistic person though so I believe that everything will work out for the best in the end!

It was a little scary travelling at first, but since you have known him for a year, as well as some of his family, you should be OK. I'll tell you this, when I first saw my husband in person, my fears melted. Morocco is amazing. It is so different from here, to state the obvious. I never thought I was cut out for the long distance/international relationship, either.... yet, here I am. My husband has been here for about 2.5 years and will be filing for his US Citizenship this year. Things have a way of working out if you have patience. Think outside the box with these things.

Thanks so much for your advice! It helps a lot to know that someone else has gone through this too and come out the other side of it! :)

If you don't mind my asking, how did you meet your husband? And when was the first time you met in person? :)

So you have not met.

Sue to his commitments he can not leave his country.

Due to your commitments you can not leave yours.

Not sure where this is going?

We met online, on Facebook, started messaging, then Skyping. We met in-person about 7 months later, married 8 months later, filed the following month, and he was here 11 months later.

It should also be noted.... If you guys are able to meet, and thus qualify for you to petition for him, there are income requirements that you must meet, or have a joint or co-sponsor.

This is just getting more complicated lol :P I am working but it's only part-time and I don't make very much but I'm not going to worry about that step until we get past the first step... :D

I posted a thread in the Work Visa forum, my boyfriend brought up the possibility of his finding a job here in the USA and getting a work visa. I think that would be a best case scenario at the moment! But I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much... :)

Just Google "US tourist visa sponsorship" for information on this.

I hate to say it, but I don't think it's very likely that he will be granted a tourist visa even with a sponsorship. The Consular Officer will likely not be convinced that your boyfriend will not just stay in the US and get married.

And I agree, don't try to hide your relationship, as it will cause you more problems if they find out. I say scrap the whole tourist visa idea and have a serious talk about your other options and where you go from here.

there is NO sponsorship for a tourist visa. An applicant must apply and be approved on his/her own merits and their merits alone. Period. Unless you know the answer to a question it is best not to answer. Don't guess or give false information as it only confuses people.

I understand, but the government is really just trying to protect people. The example that I linked was extreme, and there seemed to be more to the story than what the OP was communicating. Read through some of the Moroccan postings, and consulate reviews. Use the advanced search at the top of the screen on a PC. You'll start to understand why it's seemingly so difficult. This also pertains to many other countries, as well. This whole process is a waiting game, and, if you don't already have patience, you eventually will. Best of luck to you guys! Besides, Morocco is an amazing place to visit, and going there does help make one see things a bit differently.... Go more than once, too!

It's not sad, it's in the best interest of this country and it's citizens that our government is vigilant in protecting us by not allowing every Tom, ####### and Harry in. I hate to burst you bubble but you have not even met him in real life yet, why would you think the government would just allow him to waltz in just because you think they should allow it? Do you read the news? Do you have any idea what is going on in the world right now? As far as I am concerned the government isn't strict enough as far as immigration goes. Too many people abusing tourist visas and over staying, marrying then adjusting status, a loophole that needs to be closed completely. Fiance visas should be done away with, too. Too many people get here and decide not to marry and disappear into oblivion and take advantage of our welfare system, or they marry and never adjust their status only to stay here illegally indefinitely. Many claim they don;t have money for the fees to cover AOS, as far as I am concerned they should have to pay the AOS before the visa is issued to ensure they actually become legal or at least prove they have the money to do so before the visa is approved.

If you want to meet and marry someone you are "dating"(not sure how you date someone you have never met), you need to be like everyone else and go through the proper channels to do so. If you are working part time and don't have the money to support yourself and he works in a factory and has no savings, how exactly do you think you will be able to afford paying for his immigration journey? It costs thousands upon thousands of dollars and takes years. Sorry if I am being so blunt but you need a reality check. I am not one to give people false hope and tell them love will get you through this, because in reality it takes a lot more than that. When I first met my husband(in real life) and before we decided to get married I did my research, I figured out how much it would cost(and it turned out to be a lot more than I estimated). I talked to others who had been through it and they were very honest in telling me it wasn't going to be easy, which was the best thing they could have done for me.

So take off the rose colored glasses, put your big girl panties on and look at this REALISTICALLY. You can;t just apply for a visitor visa and get one, you need very strong ties to your home country. Period. You can;t just apply for a job in the US with no specialized degree/training and get a work visa. Period. You cannot apply for a student visa and just get one. You have to have the full tuition up front, including money for housing and living expenses for the duration of the time you will be in school, and there are no student loans for foreign students. Then the minute you graduate you are required to pack up and return to your home country. You and your boyfriend keep coming up with these visa ideas trying to get him here without having any idea what it takes. Please do yourself a favor and do more research and ask yourself HONESTLY if this is something you can do, and if you can afford it. Good luck!
