Known in the US as Mothers Little Helper.

Over the counter remedy, why a problem?

*** Thread moved from CR-1 Process forum to the Embassy/Consulate forum -- topic involves that phase. ***

I have a question. Is there no specific forum or page for topics like this? I dont get it why this has to be moved to CR-1 when the issue is actually about MEDICAL. Members belonging to other categories might not be able to see this nor can participate (or can they still view this despite being moved to CR-1?)

Just asking. Thanks.

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about Benadryl. Hope this helps you sleep now!

I can't imagine it being a problem at all. You have to meet the qualifications to immigrate here and they are following guidelines set by u.s. immigration well technically the U.S. Surgeon General....

Since it is not illegal in India, I doubt they will even ask/ test for it, so you should b in the clear.

If for some reason it is determined that you took it, and it is considered an illegal drug, then they may delay your visa for a year while you do random drug testing. This seems very unlikely in your case though.

So they can delay the visa if you test positive for marijuana? Or deny your visa for that

It as moved FROM CR-1 to the embassies forum, because it pertains to the embassy process, which includes a medical. Yes, everyone can see the thread by either looking at the correct forum (US Embassies), or searching for key words, or looking at the portal for the relevant country.

Yes and Yes. For one time use/ admitted use a long time ago it is often delayed for a year. For frequent use/ found out during the drug test, it can be a straight denial.

2 issues, one medical one legal.

I just do not see a problem with this. This is so common in the USA as an OTC drug, even children take it.

But, you are not in the USA just yet, so I see your point, and if you do not take it, until your interview, I see no problems for you.

Thanks guys for all the input and advise. Feels very calm after reading all the comments and feedback. I have already stopped taking it since last night itself. No history of Marijuana or Cocain or any contraband drugs at all. Till the time we get Visa and get through POE we will be on toes and scared because jumping all these hoops and scary story we have read makes us understand that "Nothing is sure in this process"

OP you are over thinking because you developed a dependency on Benadryl to sleep,

Its an over the counter drug that many uses to sleep & cannot without it. Its not

a question they will ask at medical if you take Benadryl, but neither should you

bring up the subject of Benadryl. Hard drugs & marijuana is what they look for

I've been debating wether I reply to this thread since you posted. I don't want to cause you any more anxiety but I will tell you what I think.

During most medicals you are asked to disclose all medications , including non-prescirtiption meds, so you should. There is nothing wrong with taking Benadryl for sleep, as everyone here has said.

Certain medicines can cause a false positive in drug tests and Benadryl has the possibility to do that. I would think its something to consider since you have taken it on a regular basis.

Here is some science to back what I am saying... http://dig.pharm.uic.edu/faq/2011/Feb/faq1.aspx

Check out table 3. Benadryl=Diphenhydramine

I am a registered nurse and a while back I worked at a State Psychiatric Hospital on a geriatric unit. I forgot why, but they ordered urine drug tests on everyone. Well to our surprise a 90 year old woman tested positive for THC (pot). She had be a patient there for years, with (sadly) no visitors. She never left the unit. The test was repeated, with the same result. Whats going on?! Well turns out she was on a medication called protonix and it has been known to cause a false positive result for THC in urine drug tests.

I hope my post doesn't make you too anxious but its important to let the doc know what meds you are if they ask. Consider going to a different clinic to do a drug screen before your medical, just so you see if you are one of those that gets a false positive.

Good luck!
