Can I file my I-765( employment authorization) separately from my AOS?

Hey guys, my fiancée and I just got married, went through the whole K-1 visa process, and now we need to do the adjustment of status process. My question is, we don't have the 380 bucks we need for the employment authorization, we just have the money for the AOS fee. So can I file employment authorization after? Or do both have to be done at the same time?

Thanks.

Once the AoS fee of $1,070 is paid then any subsequent (or concurrent) EAD and AP applications are processed without charge.

When you apply for AOS the cost is $1,070 (I-485- $985 and Biometrics- $85) You can also apply for beneficiary's Employment Authorization Form for free and Advance Parole form I-131 if your wife plans on traveling out of the country before she receives her GC, also free.

Yes! Do it all at once with one fee.

It makes absolutely no sense not to do it at the same time.

Good luck!

Follow this guide for AOS > http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

The fees are listed here > http://www.uscis.gov/i-485

The fees for the I-765(EAD-work authorization) and I-131(AP-advance parole for travel) are waived when filed with a pending I-485, so include both of those too. It takes about 60-90 days to receive the EAD/AP combo card, which will allow you to work(along with an SSN) and re-enter the US when traveling abroad while waiting for the green card approval.
