Hi everyone,

Has anyone here with the shorter than 2 years relationship still got approved on K-1 visa?

Because me and my love are going to file the application by end of this year. but in fact we've yet reached 2 years since the 1st time we met. just more than one year and a half.

I wonder 2 years here is 2 years since the 1 day we chatted (on facebook) or 1 talked, or since the day i accepted his love proposal.

by end of this year, we have met thrice, included once for visiting my family and once for visiting his family.

Anyone please gives explanation.

Thanks so much.

Hi everyone,

You've got it wrong. You only need to have met within the past two years......not that your relationship needs to be that long. You could have started your relationship during your meeting in person. You're good to file.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

I'm just going to chime in here on something not related at all to the OP so please forgive me. I just want to say how thrilled I am to be reading about the progress of same sex couples. Two and a half years ago when i started coming here to prepare for my visa journey this type of thread wasn't even happening as far as I know.

So I just want to say how happy I am for all those same sex couples out there who are able to start this journey. I hope a lot of couples on the board happen to see this though I doubt they will as it is a bit of a random post in a random place.

For those of us who think WE waited a long time to be with our loved ones (I'm not one... I got lucky and was fast) there are so many other couples who have been together for years and simply had no option just because they were of the same sex. So congrats to all of you who are finally able to be together!!!!

Thanks so much :) <3

When we met online around dec 2012, we used to talk about how impossible it would be for me (the alien) to have immigration benefits even though in his state (Iowa) same sex marriage was legal.

Of course at that time we were just joking about it because we weren't "officially dating"... We were just online friends who happened to have a lot of things in common. I am really grateful to all the people who helped in one way or another to have DOMA repealed. They paved the very path that I am walking on right now and I am taking for granted.

Seriously, mad props to all those folks who pushed to repeal DOMA!

Couldn't agree more - the world has become a worse place in many ways during my lifetime, but this is one of the few ways in which I think there has been a quite genuine change for the better.
