They obviously won't see any reception photos. They will see a marriage certificate with a date in those 90 days of the K1. Proof of ongoing relationship? We have tons of those which will not show any wedding dresses :)

Then I suggest you don't post anything online either.

Don't think they don't check up on us.

Good luck. The US Gov't can find out anything they want to.

My NOA2 took over 7 months at the TSC. Unless you are extremely lucky, I would reconsider the wedding date.

This post is about I129F. You had I130, which has different processing times.

Good luck. The US Gov't can find out anything they want to.

You overestimate the USCIS.

Then I suggest you don't post anything online either.

Don't think they don't check up on us.

People tend to exaggerate on what the US gov't can and can't do. I don't use social media anyway.

They might've had an i-130 at TSC, but we submitted an i-129F. NOA1 was 6/5, NOA2 was 12/9. It took 187 days (6+ months). Others from late June are still waiting on their approvals. So they aren't entirely off with their 7 months timeframe for TSC.

Also, in regards to social media - you may not use it, but friends/family probably do. And, if you're using a photographer, many post their photos online. So, there's that to think about it...

Just playing devils advocate, what if Visitor visa is denied? Though I pray everything goes smooth.. Then you would have to reschedule your wedding... I would suggest hope for the best but be prepared for the worst. Smart move is to reschedule... Again my 2 cents on the table.. Wish you good luck..

But legally we aren't, and that's what matters. Technically we are not breaking any law.

We can even call it an engagement party, even though she'll wear a wedding dress :)

I know exactly what you're talking about and am/was/maybe still am considering something similar but people do tend to warn you off of this because:

The issue is that you can't prove a negative. If they somehow see what looks like a wedding (which...I don't know, maybe they look on Facebook, maybe they don't. But truth is: they could), then how do you intend to prove that you are not married? Show them your empty hands that don't have a marriage certificate in them? You could easily be lying.

As for me, I'm not 100% sold on the fact that this is a real risk (although I certainly see how it could be). And my fiance and I may do a simple church wedding and a nice dinner with our families because his family won't be able to come to the US for our "real" wedding. Although we're Catholic, so in a way the church wedding is as real to us as the civil marriage, it's not legally biding (and in Costa Rica, clergymen aren't authorized to sign legally binding marriage certificates. They have a much stricter separation of church and state than we do).

That whole idea is WAY more complicated than just flying down for a church wedding (we'd need to find two priests, one here one there, who are both bilingual who are willing to work with each other and us do pre-cana for us basically over Skype and one-on-one rather than sticking us in those big group classes....it really just may not be possible or worth it). Plus the Catholic church has it's own fair bit of paperwork (I'd have to dig up baptism and confirmation records), and I think that we have enough of THAT on our plate at the moment :D

Marriage/ AOS Timeline:

23 Dec 2015: Legal marriage

23 Jan 2016: Wedding!

23 Jan 2016: "Blizzard of the Century", wedding canceled/rescheduled (thank goodness we were legally married first or we'd have had a big problem!) :sleepy:

24 Jan 2016: Small "civil ceremony" with friends and family who were snowed in with us. December was a bit of a secret and people had traveled internationally and knew we *had* to get married that weekend, and our December legal marriage was nothing but signing a piece of paper at our priest's kitchen table, without any sort of vows etc so this was actually a very special (if not legally significant) day. (L)

16 Apr 2016: Filed for AOS and EAD/AP (We delayed a bit-- no big rush, enjoying the USCIS break)

23 Apr 2016: Wedding! Finally! :luv:

27 Apr 2016: Electronic NOA1 for all 3 :dancing:
29 Apr 2016: NOA1 Hardcopy for all 3
29 Jul 2016: Online service request for late EAD (Day 104)
29 Jul 2016: EAD/AP Approved ~3 hours after online service request
04 Aug 2016: RFE for Green Card (requested medicals/ vaccination record. They already have it). :ranting:
05 Aug 2016: EAD/AP Combo Card arrived! (Day 111)
08 Aug 2016: Congressional constituent request to get guidance on the RFE. Hoping they see they have the form and approve!

K-1 Visa Timeline:

PLEASE NOTE. This timeline was during the period of time when TSC was working on I-129fs and had a huge backlog. The average processing time was 210+ days. This is in no way predictive of your own timeline if you filed during or after April 2015, unless CSC develops a backlog. A backlog is anything above the 5-month goal time listed on USCIS's site

14 Feb 2015: Mailed I-129f to Dallas Lockbox. (L) (Most expensive Valentine's card I've ever sent!)

17 Feb 2015: NOA1 "Received Date"

18 Sep 2015: Medicals complete

21 Sep 2015: Packet 3 complete, my boss puts a temporary moratorium on all time off due to work emergency :clock:

02 Oct 2015: Work emergency clears up, interview scheduled (soonest available was 5 business days away--Columbus Day was in there)

13 Oct 2015: Interview

Plus the Catholic church has it's own fair bit of paperwork (I'd have to dig up baptism and confirmation records), and I think that we have enough of THAT on our plate at the moment :D

The most negative scenario in which, let's say, the USCIS finds out about your "party," this is the worst that I can imagine:

- which process could get affected by this? K1? - I doubt the K1, because by that time it would be at NVC, or even consulate - where you have to prove ongoing relationship and affidavit (and a bunch of other things). No wedding here!

- AOS? - maybe here, because, let's say, the USCIS finds out about your thing. OK, but here you have to prove that you married legally within 90 days of entry with a K1 visa - which will be true, and proven with a marriage certificate issued accordingly, within this 90 days.

Key here is the marriage certificate - it is proof that you were both legally able and willing and married each other. If you follow the letter of the law - you will have a legally obtained marriage certificate, within the legally required 90 days of entry with a K1 visa.

We are skipping the religious ceremony because we are of different confessions, and we are both more spiritual than religious anyway :)

As for moving our date, it's impossible, because trying to get people from all corners of the world together is not an easy task, especially when you have only 90 days between K1 entry and marriage. So, worst case scenario, we will have a reception, leaving the legal ceremony for later, whenever the bloody K1 is issued. Yes, this country needs immigration reform badly :)

Good luck to you!
