CLMike, the age of the article doesn't make it less real. Those things happen in high fraud consulates. I used to read those kinds of stories about Manila... and what to and which attorney to contact before the case went back to the US In order to save a delay.

My knowledge of London says you can STOP READING the rest of the article when you get to this sentence:

" Rather, the interviewing officer first refuses the visa application under INA 221(g), and requests more information about the relationship."

London issues a 221(g) when you forget a document or don't prove income or need a joint sponsor. It means they can't approve the visa until they have the required long form birth certificate, for example, or the passport is too tatty and needs replacing, or the police certificate from Australia wasn't the fingerprint version. Those are the most common I can think of for London. The give the passport back and a 221(g) form saying what is required. The visa decision is on "hold" until the beneficiary sends the needed document and their passport back via the courier. Then the visa is issued in a week or some were as long as 3 weeks.

I don't remember one case of a file being returned to USCIS from London for lack of believing a relationship. They don't delve into the relationship or ask for photo albums or engagement ring receipts. You don't have to have an engagement ring or a specific engagement date. Many don't. If you are a real couple then it is easy peasy. If you are a fraudster, then the whole process from Day 1 would be worrisome because you might get caught in a lie somewhere along the way.

Speaking of which, is this the long form UK birth certificate because this is what we have for him right now?

The London website explains what is needed on this page http://london.usembassy.gov/application_documents.html

Birth Certificate: Obtain the original, or certified copy, of the birth record of each family member (yourself, your spouse, and all unmarried children under the age of 21, even if they are not immigrating with you. If the children are deceased, so state giving year of death). Note: We will not accept the short form version of a UK birth certificate. The certificate must list both parents' names. Please follow this link for further information.

So---

Is it either original or certified?

Does it contain both parents names?

It so, it is acceptable no matter what color it is, typed or hand-written, portrait or landscape, old or new.

I assumed this thread was in case they made an error and he did pass his medical.

How? Every consulate is vastly different.

Because, regardless of where his K-1 interview was held, he was trying to lighten the situation, offer support and was trying to ease your worries.

Yep, that version you showed looked like mine.

My original is actually typed, but last time I got a replacement, it was hand written. Mine is portrait style like that, but my father's is landscape. I wouldn't worry too much about the birth certificate either.

London will not ask him anything they would not expect anyone in a relationship to know. Its not an interrogation, he will be at a window as if you were buying a train ticket having a natter.

Here is a suggestion for you, start reading up on the AOS stuff for when he is there so you are not bricking it for that stage too.

Back to the original topic, back up plan would be she moves to the UK. Still might be if I can't settle in the US. Or maybe France or Spain.

You forget that online and long distance relationships are still bona fide--your proof of knowing him for four years, meeting several times, and getting engaged is just that: proof. The USCIS claims they do not discriminate based on types of relationships, and I would imagine that includes the wealth of people on here who met and held relationships virtually for years before or after meeting in person. I think your problem here--your mistake--lies in how you're thinking about your relationship as open to question when after more than four years of knowing each other and over a year of being engaged/meeting in person, it clearly isn't.

I met Jake on a meet up site in June 2013 (it hasn't even been a year!), but I was already in Britain on research. When we decided to meet after a few short convos, I took a walk 5 minutes down South Clerk street in Edinburgh to a pub across from where he lived. We dated for two months in person from there, and continued long distance when I left in August. I went back to the UK in November 2013, we were engaged in January 2014, and he visited me in the US and met all of my family in March 2014. Now I'm back in the UK for 7 weeks (on funded research, but I'm staying with him--free accommodation + I see my love!) and can be part of most of this process with him. I'll be attending him to his medical, and hopefully his interview (but I doubt it will occur that fast--I leave June 21st). But my point is: I'm not the least bit worried about their questioning of our bona fide relationship--and I'll have been with him and known him for only ONE YEAR by the time a June/early July interview rolls around. We got our petition approved, no RFEs, and I was painfully clear on my 129F about this timeline, showing them our initial convos on the meet up that marked the date as June 2013...because our relationship is real--and that is also extremely clear for us, our families, and apparently to USCIS. London consulate will be a cake walk (I miss cakewalks, you guys) because our relationship is so easy to prove, even though it's been just a year. I just finished reading this thread and asked him: What's my favorite food? He said: "Not sure you have a favourite, but you get the most excited when we go out for sushi or seafood." Dead on, and we never even discussed it.

Your partner knows you. It's why you're getting married. You'll be fine not because anyone else shows you a link, but because your relationship is bona fide by feelings AND good god--by TIME.
