My colombian wife and are are visiting family in her country. There the have someone to cook food and clean house. The women also help us with our newborn and we asked her if she would be interested in being a nanny for us and she said yes . She isn't a stranger,my wife's family has known her for many years. Are we able to apply for a visa for her and if yes what kind?

Work Visa's have their own forum, work visa's are handled by Lawyers.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

No. The legal requirements which might allow bringing in a foreign nanny are quite strict....you must have a job that requires you to be subject to frequent (and lengthy) overseas assignments, while US assignments cannot be for more than around 4-5 years. That usually reduces the pool of qualified Amcits to foreign service officers, certain members of the Dept of Justice and very rarely top executives of multinational corporations.....the average Joe cannot bring in a foreign nanny, no matter how long they may have known the person, or whatever her experience level working as a nanny or domestic employee overseas may be. A legal permanent resident cannot bring in a foreign domestic worker (legally) under any circumstances.

There is no way to bring the nanny to the US.

Plenty of qualified nannies in the US, so no reason for the US to let a foreign worker have a US job that can go to an unemployed person here.

Plenty of qualified fill in your job.

Never met anybody here on a work visa that was out of the norm nobody else in the US could do it. Must happen I guess.

December 21, 2023:  Production of new Green Card ordered - will be seeing USCIS again every 10 years for renewal

I met many au pairs in college who were all on J-1 visas.

Their host families paid for school as well a stipend in return for childcare.

Seemed like a marvelous program to me!
