Pregnant and about to file for AOS

So I just took a couple of pregnancy tests, and they both came out positive. I'm supposed to see my civil surgeon next week and send out my application as soon as he is done with the forms. To be brutally honest, my husband and I are not ready to have a baby at this point, and we're kind of leaning towards terminating the pregnancy. I know this is very controversial, and I'm really scared that if we do the abortion after I file for AOS, we might encounter problems. I read that pregnant women get a waiver or something if they need vaccines and just get those after the baby is born. But what if the pregnancy is terminated after we see the civil surgeon, and before the interview date? Is this frowned upon by USCIS? I don't know what to do. Please help. Thank you.

This is a touchy subject especially for Filipinos and I asked my husband who's also Filipino but grew up here in the US. This is what he said.

Here in the US they practice "pro choice" and a lot are also "pro life". He added that it is the mother's "choice" if she wants to get an abortion.

My conclusion is that it's up to you. I have no idea as to how unprepared you are like what are the grounds of termination and how difficult these are for you.

Some of the success stories here in VJ with their AOS involves them showing ultrasounds of the baby and the IO seem to be happy with that. It all goes down as to what kind of IO you'd get and how you'd be able to convince him that you didn't terminate the pregnancy because you didn't want any ties with your current and expectedly permanent husband.

Just to avoid any red flags, I would put off going to the civil surgeon until after you've terminated the pregnancy (if that's what you decide to do). That way, there will be no record of it going into your interview, and you are certainly not required to volunteer the information (I can't see any chance of them asking about a terminated pregnancy as a "shot in the dark").

Good luck, whatever you decide. rose.gif

The pregnancy, and your decision about if and when to terminate it, have absolutely nothing to do with USCIS and immigration. USCIS won't care, and you don't need to let any of that influence your decision.

If it were up to me, you would keep the pregnancy :-) BUT I only say that because I think babies are adorable and I love kids. I think whatever family decisions you make is entirely up to you and your husband's and it is in no ones place to judge you on a decision you make regarding your family and health. With that being said, I think I would agree with the comment saying you should probably do the vaccination after your termination of pregnancy. Technically it shouldn't have a bearing with the decisions of USCIS but the person reviewing your case when they have a clue that you terminated a pregnancy could for whatever reasons relate that to evidence of bona fide relationship. This is just my opinion though, so think of the varying options and do what is best for you. Good luck!

You know we seem always to be unprepared and we think "it's not the right time now". That's what happened with my parents' unpreparedness, but now they never regret a second that they decided to gift me life, the most precious gift. Avoiding any subjective and prejudiced opinion, undoubtedly, it's couple's choice, it's your choice...private choice...and, indeed, USCIS has no say or care about it...it shouldn't affect AOS at final extent. Good luck :)

Your being pregnant just means there are certain immunizations you won't be able to receive nor the chest X-Ray if you need it. You decision as to how to proceed with the pregnancy is your choice. The US government recognizes a woman's rights over her body and her choice to continue or terminate a pregnancy.

The USCIS does not care one way or another. It is your body, therefore it is your choice. It is true however that the type of immunizations you are required to take may vary depending on whether you are pregnant or not. Having said that, consider your options carefully so that you are comfortable with whatever decision you make.

Good luck!
