Being hit by lightening is one of the worst things I can think of...

Hubby's an mechanic.. I'll get him in here.. he'll come up with something... :)

Honestly... it's safe.. Oprah did a special on it once.. If SHE says it's safe.. then - ya now!

I always wondered, if a plane is flying near the fireworks do they see/feel them?

Fireworks don't go that high up in the air though. it would have to be during takeoff or landing no? I'm sure they'd see them... I'll ask hubby about the "feeling" bit.

Well at our fireworks a plane looked like it flew right through them and all I could think of is how much I'd be freakin' if I saw that through my window!

Hmmm, I flew next to some fireworks one time and loved seeing it. It was like my own personal show. Don't remember feeling anything.

Wow this thread got going :P

Anyways... I would be least worried about problems with the airplane than I would if some moron with TB who has been warned to not take a trans-atlantic flight decides to do it anyway and possibly infect a dozen or so other passengers.

Worst Case Scenario?

Flying from Australia, all the way to LA, dealing with LAX and the PEOPLE, flying to DFW, dealing with DFW and it's messed up terminal system... then crashing on my way to Arkansas :\ (a 45 min flight)

As for the TB thing mentioned earlier, Australia now has POLIO because of some smart ### student x.X

Apart from that, the worst I've experienced is:

- Flying Japan Airlines during the September 11 terrorist attacks. (Geneva Convention is a dirty word methinks x.X)

- Flying LAX-BNE and had to divert around an active volcano, and thus, having to land and refuel at some random island airport, and could not get off, but had to leave the seatbelts OFF in case there was a fuel leakage... and we had to run... (yeah, logic, I think, doesn't work well with fuel fumes :P)

- Flying during the early december storms last year. Held in Arkansas for 2 hours, missed DFW-LAX flight by 10 mins. Get on next flight. Missed LAX-SYDNEY flight by 2 mins (we watched it Taxi out.. it left ON TIME, even though the whole country was delayed by at least an hour *headdesk*). Missed SYD-BNE by 30 mins (the one time my 'declare stuff since the line is shorter' plan failed).

The Beginning

September 29th, 1999 - 'hooked' up with Dave after chatting with him for about a year online.

October 23rd, 2004 - September 29th, 5 years to the day, he proposed to me =D

July 23rd, 2005 - Dave comes over for the wedding on July 27th at the beach :)

Sometime in December, he sends off I-130 to Texas and promptly leaves me in the dark like a mushroom x.X...

The Saga Continues *dumdeduuummm*

August - phone NVC. intriguing :\ Phoned again, ah hah! the truth... no record of us >< losers... Go and visit Dave for 3 months...

End of January, we sent the petition back in again. 2 weeks later, we actually get a number in our hot little hands.

April 5th - NOA2 approved!

April sometime, received and sent back Choice of Agent

May 18th - Received IV Bill

May 28th - Sent IV Bill MO back

June 11th - DS-230 generated

July 12th - Received and sent back DS-230 packet

July 19th - NVC Sent Husband checklist of AoS. They forgot to fill in N/A fills with.... N/A x.X

July 23rd - DS-230 entered

July 26th - NVC received checklist regarding financial suppliment (ie, got a talking to on the phone :P)

August 1st - sent financial papers back

August 3rd - (Automatic msg) Financial records lacking! ARGH!~

August 7th - Received actual fixed paperwork - 'processing'

August 17th - NVC COMPLETED CASE!~

September 10th - Received packet 3

September 17th - Medical in Brisbane

November 14th - Interview VISA GRANTED

December 8th - Landed in USA

December 24th - GreenCard Arrives

Worst case scenario flying across the ocean has to be sitting in the window seat and really having to use the bathroom but the two people sitting next to you are sleeping.

I think as far as worst experiences though, they are with the little regional puddle jumpers. I had a bad experience in one going from Chicago to Springfield Ill. Hit some rough turbulence in this little prop plane....I had to hug the seat in front of me to hold on. These planes have no cockpit door so you can see inside. The altitude warning alarms were going off as we were dropping so fast. Not a good time at all.

I do ok with short flights but long ones ...well that's another ball of wax.

Basically if I can visualize everything that could go wrong, and accept it, I think I'll be ok. Well that and a sedative or two ;)

So........................................what's the worst thing you can possibly think of that would happen on a transcontinental flight?

Don't worry. When is the last time you heard something bad go wrong on a transcontinetal flight? I flew in the Air Force for years on the big cargo planes and never had any "real" problems. Although I was on many of missions were we had to shut down an engine...no problem..just takes longer to get to destination. Aircraft that fly over the water are approved and certified by the FAA to make the long flights. They have to prove if they shut down an engine they can still make it on the other engines, even if it is a two engine aircraft. A B-777 can fly on one engine for a couple of hours or more if needed to.

Airplanes systems are made double and even triple redundant. It really takes a LOT to for an airplane to give up it's quest to fly. :) And by the way; it isn't like the movies when a small hole, (i.e. gunshot, etc.), in the airplane happens. The hole doesn't grow bigger and suck everyone out. The pressure eventually equalizes and the plane just keeps on flying.

talk about suckin' all the fun outta the thread!!! :P

j/k

the only problems i've actually heard of are the ones involving terrorism, like the flight over lockerbie back in the 80's and the flight with the shoe bomber a few years ago. Other than that.............so far.....................unless you count that flight on Lost...........

well I didn't think I was superstitious but honestly I don't want to say that I've never heard of technical difficulties since then I'll have one. roflmaoooo.

My stupid ex-husband would never go in the toilets on a plane.... he was scared he would be sucked down when he flushed!!!!!

The longest flight we did was 14 hours!!!!

i bet his bladder looked like a large loaf of Wonder bread..when he landed

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Christmas Day, 2002. I was leaving JFK to Paris. AirFrance (worst in the biz). B-767 about 3/4 full. It was snowing pretty heavily but the airport didn't shut down. We boarded our flight and the plane closed its doors. We sat there for 8 hours!! Didn't even roll out onto the runway. We were at the gate for 8 hours. the flight crew told us we couldn't go back into the terminal because of AirFrance regulations. They never said it was an FAA issue. I would've understood this to some degree. The crew ran out of food and drinks within the first 6 hours. I must have consumed a 12 pack of Bud myself. Just before we were cleared to leave, the plane was stopped again and the crew was changed out for a new one. There were dozens of men from somewhere in the middle East, who began demanding to be let off of the plane because they were not permitted by their beliefs to fly on Sunday. And the next day would now be Sunday. It was a huge mess. Another 1.5 hours tacked on to calm everyone down. Many passengers began demanding to be allowed off of the plane. They were denied and the plane was de-iced. we arrived in Paris 12 hours behind schedule. everyone missed their connecting flights. half of the plane's luggage was lost. We were all stranded in France, during the holidays, with NO luggage. AirFrance sucks.
