Once again agreeance

It's not uncommon here that when someone kills someone they already have 7-10 felonies at a very young age

The flip side is people complain we lock up too many people, specially young black men.

You are on fire today with truth and vision, so what is the answer

You want them off the street

or

we lock up too many young black men

I want criminals off the street, but I also want black men to not be treated like criminals for just existing. There are quite a few in prison for offenses that white men get slaps on the wrists for. The law works differently for black and hispanic men. The school to prison pipeline doesn't help this situation at all.

I am going to call it a night for now. I'll pick up the crusade for civil rights in the morning.

false

The study noted that most criminals obtained their guns in the underground economy — from friends, family members, or gang members — well outside any influence from gun controls on legitimate gun owners.

Ahh yes, the mythical "underground economy". Where in this mythical land of the underground economy do people manufacture and sell their "underground" guns? Or do these guns get made and sold to dealers legally, then happen to find their way into the hands of criminals?

These guns would make the underground economy not so mythical.

WASHINGTON – About 1.4 million firearms were stolen during household burglaries and other property crimes over the six-year period from 2005 through 2010, according to a report released today by the Justice Department’s Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS). This number represents an estimated average of 232,400 firearms stolen each year— about 172,000 stolen during burglaries and 60,300 stolen during other property crimes.http://www.bjs.gov/content/pub/press/fshbopc0510pr.cfm

Exactly, once legally owned guns out on the street. More than likely because irresponsible gun owners did not secure their weapons properly. Which is exactly my point, there is no "underground" to blame it on. Most, if not all of the illegal guns on the streets that are killing people were once legally owned.

If you went away for the weekend, your home got burlarized and your wife's jewelry that was hidden in the closet in a lock box and your spare car that had the club on the steering wheel was stolen, does that make you an irresponisble automobile and jewelry owner?

An anecdotal story - My grandparent's lived in the Germantown section of Killadelphia. My grandfather had a heart attack and he and grandmom went to the hospital. When she came home the following night, she found that the house was burglarized. His guns were in a safe that was bolted to the floor. They managed to get it. He had 7 hand guns stolen. Maybe because it's a family member, but the measures he took I wouldn't consider them irresponsible.

I seriously doubt that was the case in the 1.4 million guns that were stolen. I'd bet most of the gun thefts were do to irresponsible storage and easy access, most thieves don't hang around their crime scene long enough to remove a safe from the floor. I'd also be willing to bet that a good chunk of those "stolen" guns, were sold illegaly and then claimed as stolen.

By the way, good to see you back Kyt.

I don't think they're all stolen in the same manner either. And I am certain that there's quite a few sold through straw purchasers(which is illegal too), we just had a guy sentenced here to 20-66 years for buying guns for a felon and one of the guns was used to kill a cop. http://abclocal.go.com/wpvi/story?section=news/local&id=920774

The thing is that all of the guns legitimately bought that end up in the criminals hands--there has to be a crime committed in order for them to get possession of it.

So it's the fault of the gun owners that their guns were stolen? Kinda reminds me of that girl wearing the short skirt asking to be raped because of how she was dressed..

Exactly my point. Usually that crime is the gun being sold to a straw buyer, or just outright illegaly being sold by a private owner. The other method criminals use to obtain their guns is purchasing them at gun shows with no background checks and them selling them on the streets. All 3 of these methods can be significantly reduced with stricter gun control.

If they are storing their weapons irresponsibly, yes they are somewhat to blame for their own carelessness. Kinda like leaving your keys in the ignition with the car running while going in the store and wondering why it was stolen.
