Pros and Cons of VJ site upgrade

So VJ got updated over the weekend and there are some noticeable differences.

I think "reputation" is going to play a bigger role going forward and perhaps minimize the need of quoting a long rant just to put "I Agree." Maybe its just me but I don't recall being able to see who up-voted posts before.

Looks like a lot of people lost their avatar over the upgrade so now the pictures I've come to identify people by have all changed. Not really a gripe, just an observation.

I dunno, just thought I'd post a topic since I've seen a few comments here and there about new features.

What do you guys like/hate?

It is interesting to see who likes what posts. It is rarely who you think it was, and seems many of the lurkers will be anonymous no more!

You can no longer identify the threads you have posted in. There used to be a different icon, now nothing. I used to follow up on threads based on that.

Pro: lovely green color when you mouse over something a topic.

I also really like the "person at a glance" box you get when you hover over someone's name.

Dark folder - New content

Dark folder with white square - Thread you posted in with new content

Dim folder - Thread you posted in, no new content

Clicking the folder will take you to first unread post.

It all becomes more apparent if you mark everything as read first, then you will easily see the threads you have participated in.

There is no white square for me, at all. Just dark and light folders. I posted in this tread and just read your comment and checked, it just shows light colored, no square or mark that I posted in it.

Clear your cache/cookies, and it will probably work, or just close and reopen the browser.

You used to click after the name to get that info. That seemed quicker than hovering.

The look-and-feel does not have enough contrast so my eyes are quite uncomfortable. All the colors are very light.

Just like the major makeover a few years back, I think I'll get used to this new design eventually.

I wonder if the Ewok would make huge changes to VJ every 2-3 years.

He was using 3 versions back of the software that is no longer supported, He had to upgrade to get all the new security features. Some of the old functionality is gone, but he gets more buttons to play with. I anticipate a lot of growing pains and frustration, until he gets this version fully implemented and fine tuned.

I noticed "Tags" lol Some of the thread starters haven't noticed that is not just a second title line.

And, the ability to customize some stuff is gone, like I can't turn the Rich Text editor off by default. But you can use the first button in the editor to click it off and on.
