Hello everyone ...

I've been out of the US for over 7yrs now. I lived in MI and CA. So it's like I'm immigrating to the US too right along with my husband. We have some distance relatives in CA ... but other then that nothing to tie us to one place. So I'm wondering what are the good or best places to live in the US now?As far as jobs, being family friendly and possibly near a Muslim community?

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Each person has a different perfect place. A lot depends on what is important to you. Weather , do you like it hot or cold, wet or dry ? Are you a rural lover or a city lover ? Are there jobs that you can do there ? Do you have children so that school quality is important ? Is crime rate a driving factor ? There are several online tools to help you pick.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Day 1 01/22/2013 AOS package sent

Day 8 01/28/2013 NOA 1 received

Day 15 02/04/2013Biometrics appt letter for 2/25/2013

Day 16 02/05/2013 Succesful walk in biometrics 20 days early

Day 25 02/14/2013 USCIS status changed to Testing and Interview ready for interview scheduling

Day 31 02/20/2013 Email notification that my interview is scheduled for March 21st

Day 57 03/19/2013 EAD/AP card ordered

Day 59 03/21/2013 Interview at 10.30 am Seattle Approved

Day 67 03/29/ 2013 Greencard Arrived . Applied for SSN

Day 68 03/30/2013 EAD arrived

Day 74 04/03/2013 SSN card arrived

Eligible for ROC December 21st 2014

http://www.findyourspot.com/ is a great resource for narrowing down options based on preferences. From there, you can take the list of recommendations and do a search such as "[Name of Recommended City] + Crime Statistics," for example.

And yes, Portland is a great place to live, but don't move here. :D

The Washington, DC area has one of the strongest economies you can find, has lots of family-friendly areas in suburban MD and VA, and is very culturally diverse, so I'm sure you'd be able to find a large Muslim community.

CITIZENSHIP: 

Biometrics appointment for 2020-03-27 has been cancelled until further notice as all field offices are closed because of COVID-19.

***NOA dated 12/10/2020 USCIS stated they are able to reuse previous Biometrics***

Interview was easy. My hubby's Oath Ceremony is scheduled for February 25th. I can't watch >sad< but happy he is getting his certificate!
