I signed it, make sure you "share" the petition on facebook or twitter. Certainly, there are people who empathize with you and others after witnessing second-hand how the system worked for your application. Of course, we know this first-hand.

I am the USC.

people who come on tourist visas with the intent to marry and adjust status are breaking the law, plain and simple, not a risk worth taking.

Very little risk, less that say a return flight yo your home country.

The reason people cannot get visitor visas from certain countries with pending petitions is because of people who abused the system and adjusted their status while here on said visas.

I doubt it. More likely because of the number that forget to go home and join the 'undocumented'.

The government doesn't need to be reminded of how broken our system is, they are well aware of it. Have you watched the news lately? Ever hear of immigration reform? They are working on it.

Like every time before and what do they end up doing. Most of it is playing to the gallery.

There's a reason it's hard for some people from certain countries to visit. People abused the system. They came to "visit" and didn't leave. It's ruined it for the people with good intentions who simply wanted to see their loved ones.

That's part of the reason this process is long and CAN be difficult for some - people made it that way.

I'm not sure what could be done to make this process faster. Reviewing petitions doesn't take long at all - the VOLUME of the petitions is what causes the 5-9 month delay.

Okay. I hear this all the time that it is the volume. But they are charging good money for this. I have worked for state government processing large volumes of applications with no charge. We had time frames we legally had to adhere to. I paid 340 dollars for my K-1 fee. Even paying some guy 50 bucks an hour, that bought me almost 7 hours of processing. There is no excuse that the agency (a revenue producing agency) is not funded adequately to provide that service. Heck! Charge me an expedite fee like DOS does for passports. How many of us would pay it? That is more revenue, which should translate to more staffing. The wait time is inexcusable, under any metric. We simply put up with it because we have no other options.

There was a similar petition not too long ago. I signed it too, but it was kind of languishing. This one did a little better. Make sure to tweet and FB it folks. Get the word out. It will take quite an effort to get 100,000 since we are distinct minority. More folks want to build a Death Star :)

If we get loads of votes, maybe we make the news. That would help our cause a lot.

*** Thread moved from K-1 Process forum to General Immigration Discussion -- topic involves more than one visa type. ***

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

They do need to be reminded of it. "They are working on it." They have been "working on it" forever. The only thing they are really working on is re-election and fundraising.

Useless career Politicians.

Some of you VJ members should run for State Rep or Senator. Forget the paperweights that are currently in office making a mess out of everything. Then some change might truly happen.

Regular people representing their neighbors for a short period of time, then going back to their real lives... Not some out of touch politicians. No wonder why nothing gets fixed.

I signed.
