As with other Ecuatoriana wives of my knowledge, she's currently extremely depressed about not being in Ecu during the holidays, and her biggest cultural shock remains the anemic partying habits of gringos -- specifically, that we attend fireworks displays on New Year's Eve and then go home when they end... at 12:10 a.m. because it's too cold outside.

Conversely, in Ecu, any party that ends before 4 a.m. is a dud, si man.

No word yet on when the oath ceremony will be, no Brother D-man.

On the bright side, we attended a Christmas Eve party at some Colombian friends' house. There was a 50-ish-year-old rubia (blonde) there who was originally from Russia. When nearly-2-year-old Mini-Bone awoke from his nap and became oriented to the strange surroundings, I told him "go hug the pretty rubia!" and he did, without hesitation. Smart boy. Daddy's boy. Appreciate those rubias, si man.

I always get somewhat of a kick out of various posts on VJ about what the petitioner's plan is for when the beneficiary finally arrives in the U.S., hee hee man. The plans are invariably "romantic dinner, bubble bath with soft bathrobe, then hours or even days of nonstop whoopee," gee man. When Mrs. T-B. arrived, she seemed somewhat dazed, if not completely out of it; on her first full day, she came down with a ferocious upper-respiratory infection with bronchitis. This was because she had attended three despedidas (going-away parties) in three Ecu cities before catching her flight to the U.S., whee man, and had not had more than a couple hours' sleep in three days, zzz man. She was quite ill for about a week, cough hack sneeze man.

OMG when I arrived we unpacked my cargo van full of stuff, closed on our house and got married all within 5 days of me arriving her. The day after our wedding we started demo and reno's on our house and have been in that mode for the last 6 months. Who has time for romantic dinners?

We only have my wife's 12yo and 17yo to worry about (and the 17yo mostly stays at his dad's place anyway). But thanks for the tip.

Even more awesome is that, shortly after the oath ceremony, I shall begin composing my blistering after-visa complaint to the Bureau of Consular Affairs of the State Department, of course with copies to the ####### Guayaquil consulate. Been waiting almost 5 years for this, grrrr man...
