I think you have to approach your next job with different expectations. And understand that it can take time (months) to feel as though you fit in to a new team of people.

This is my standard approach to a new job:

In my head I split my thinking about it into two 3-month halves.

For the first three months I expect to find it difficult and hard while I get used to the new place, people and rules. When it gets tough in those first three months I remind myself that it's often tough in a new job, it's just part of the process and it's going to get better.

At the three-month-mark (which I mark in my diary) I assess the situation. If it's really bad at this point, I make a commitment to do three more months but to also start looking for a new job at the same time.

At the six-month-mark I assess the situation again. Every single time I've done this I've found that I've hit my stride, made at least one good friend in the company and am generally happy with the job. However if I had not been I would also have had several good leads for the next job.

I'm also pretty structured in my job hunt strategy. I call it 4x4. For the first four days of each week I aim to do four things a day towards the job hunt. They can be pretty small things - make a call, update a part of a resume, buy a trade magazine. Or bigger - create a website, have a meeting with a mentor etc.

Then for the last three days of the week I relax and try not to think about the job hunt to give myself a breather. It might not work for everyone but I find it keeps the ball rolling and I find it's also possible to do while working your current job.

Really though..This is an awesome strategy.

Retail stores really like to hire attractive people if possible. I imagine if their ratio of ugly folks is high then they might need to balance things out by keeping the pretty ones.

I'm sorry people here have given rude, inappropriate responses. Some people aren't interested in helping others or being compassionate to situations, they are simply here to make others feel bad about themselves. Ignore them.

I'm glad you got your job back - the first job is always hard, especially for the quiet ones who don't speak up when they disagree with something or feel like they don't fit in. Go in every day with a positive attitude, and attempt to learn new things. It's horrible to go in every day knowing you don't want to be there. If you think that way, your days are going to drag on and on and you'll hate every minute of it.

You'll adjust. It just takes time. Good luck to you.

I share your feelings because my wife was in the same situation, where the stress at work was too much and after a a couple of months there she just couldn't take it anymore. One day she called me and she was crying about the situation at work, I told her the money is not worth it, your peace of mind is priceless so pack your bag and come home.

A couple of years later she still talks about it, she should have stick to it and not quit, but " Le pase, se le Pas, nou paka change sa" past is the past there's nothing we can do about it, mwen expecte ou apran'n on bagay de experyans lan e sa ap few pi fo pou lot travay.

I'm glad you got your job back - the first job is always hard, especially for the quiet ones who don't speak up when they disagree with something or feel like they don't fit in. Go in every day with a positive attitude, and attempt to learn new things. It's horrible to go in every day knowing you don't want to be there. I myself have started a temp job and there are times during the day when I feel myself thinking "I don't wanna be here" but I think about how great it is to FINALLY be working again, great to get paid, great to talk/meet new people and great that I am finally able to say i've done more than sit at home all day then i get home from work and I'm happy to have gotten through another day. The more i learn the more in control I feel and the less stressed out and hate it less.
