Just wanted to get the thoughts of people who are knowledgeable on cars.. We are looking to get a car ASAP (Like this week) and we were looking at the 2012 Ford Focus. Does anyone have any feedback on this vehicle? Is FORD ok, or should we stick to a Japanese brand car like Honda or Toyota? Thanks everyone!!

My Journey:

We met through a study-abroad program in Shanghai, China in August of 2009

We got engaged March of 2010

I received my K1 VISA in 6 months (June-December 2010)

We were married 04/02/2011
I received my conditional 2-year greencard (AOS) in 2.5 months with no interview (April-June 2011)

Our son was born 02/03/2013

I received my masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology 04/17/2013

I received my 10-year greencard (ROC) in 3 months with no interview (March-June 2013)

My husband returned from deployment 06/20/2013

My naturalization journey took 4 months (April-August 2014)

I became a US citizen on 08/01/2014

Received passport in 3 weeks (regular processing)

Thank you, VJ! smile.png

modern Fords are good in the reliability department. Honda and Toyota have slipped a bit but I would still recommend them. Alternative cars in that class include the basic Subaru Impreza, Honda Civic, Mazda 3 etc.

Avoid VW, Suzuki, GM etc.

any of the 3 mentioned are good. the most important thing is to buy a car you like and will keep for a long time.

I've got a Toyota Rav 4. My sister had a Toyota corolla for years and never had a problem so I switched to Toyota. They have had recalls but they all do that at some point. It has been pretty reliable. I used to drive a Chevy and hubby loves his Impala. Shop around. Check the consumer reports. Ask people who drive what you want and see what they tell you.

If you're looking at a Focus, also consider the Hyundai Elantra. Fuel consumption is just as good, warranty is 10 years, 100,000 miles and it looks pretty sweet.

If you're looking at a Honda, go smaller and look at the Fit, not the Civic. It's more versatile and looks better.

The civic is one ugly mother, I'll give you that.

My dad's onto his 2nd ford taurus, the 1st 1 just kept going until someone rear ended him. We're on our first ford, the freestar and my sister just bought the brand new ford fiesta. All good reviews. No major problems and the parts are on the cheaper end. I think the only down side, to us at least, the resale isn't as high as toyota or honda.

*cracks knuckles*.... Ahem....

2012 Ford Focus is Fords First "World Car". By which they mean it's the first time they want to use the fact they sell the same car everywhere else in the world as a selling point. Rather uniquely the vehicle is also the first one that has had over 80% of it's parts common to all markets, save a bumper, headlamp, statuary requirements for countries etc.

The vehicle itself is excellent, high standard of build quality, and replacement parts are designed to be cheap. Ford tend to be "3rd Generation" BMW's now. The majority of the car is now Software computer controlled meaning updates will become available should the newer duratec / duratorq engines develop a common running fault.

All in all having been to the press events for it, great little car, although some early models have had a few wiring issues here and there, and some of the parts coming off the production run have not been overwhelmingly consistant. Apparently there was an issue 'somewhere' so be aware of replacement parts.

If you have additional options, check em and re'check em!
