Call back USCIS, get a Tier 2 Human, an ISO, and ask:

My address in USA is 'this' - Do you show 'this' in your records, or something else?

If something else, please change it to 'this' and resend all correspondence, including my greencard, to 'this' address.

--

Back at 'this' address - write your name on a card, glue to the inside of the post box.

--

Review your passport. There's:

1. a visa stamp attached with glue and

2. a red stamp in ink, an I-551 stamp.

What's the expiration date on the I-551 stamp?

--

Usually you are not 'dinged' for 6 months or less out of the country - no need to get re-entry permit. But you should get back to USA now, this week, prior to school restarting, stay for a week or two. This was a really bad plan, not to come back at the 6 month mark.

--

That 'immigrant visa' would have been a CR-2, an IR-2 or something else. Exactly what is the designation in yer passport, that 'glued-in visa' page?

You know before I pay for a roundtrip ticket back to the US, I would shell out the money for a replacemnt card. At least I would know that I will have card in hand, rather than all of the running around trying to locate a lost GC.

At the end of the day, what do you want? A green card.

OK my dad got home looking at passport now. The visa sticker just say immigrant visa, with my details and serves as a temporary I-551 for 1 year. on the next page I have a stamp dated FEB 25 2011 (I also have another stamp which looks similar dated AUG 10 2011)

I don't think I'll be able to take time of school, I can really only go in the summer, and I thought I had a year till I could re-enter. Is it hard to get a new I-551 stamp (or do I have to wait for it to expire first) and re-enter in the summer?

I wish i could just get my green card. I don't understand why my family got there's and mine didn't come. There's all came at the same time too.

Have you discussed your plans to maintain Permanent residency in the US and go to Uni in the UK with a Immigration Lawyer?

What happened to the long hols?

You have a year before you need a re-entry permit. But any long absence is likely to be scrutinized, so you can run into trouble for smaller absences than that if you have no evidence that you are maintaining your permanent residence in the US.

Op your post is completely confusing.

You said you got your i551 stamp – when did you get this stamp (this is stamped when you first entered US as an immigrant, your i551 is valid for a year from date it was stamped).

You talked about your dad making info pass appointment…. If you are in UK with your dad why cannot you make the appointment?

USCIS would not mail your GC to you in UK, same would apply for rest of your family so I am guessing they got their card while they were in US.

If you one year is passed from getting the I551 stamp.. I am not aware of a way to extend it maybe someone on here might help if they have gone thru similar situation.

I'm in university the only holiday we get is near exam time in may. Then exams run up until late jun. I haven't spoken with an immigration lawyer, I thought I would get some advice here first. All I just want to know will it be possible for me to re enter without my green card after my I-551 stamp expires (which I think is February if it lasts a year)

OK to clear things up: the stamp is dated FEB 25 2011 when I first admitted.

I have traveled there again using I-551 as proof of resident to enter AUG 10 2011.

I was hoping my GC would arrive at the time but it didn't. So now i am left with an I-551 stamp which will expire February this year. I want to know is there any options I have in order to get into US again this year in august time (after my stamp expires).

To make an infopass appointment don't you have to be in the US? I am currently in the UK.

No. You need the I-551 stamp or the green card to be let back in. I strongly suggest you make an appointment at the US Embassy to discuss what you can do.

No it's not possible to enter without your GC or valid I-551 stamp... well actually it would be because you'd enter as a visitor which is a lie and creates all sorts of issues for you.

I concur with the advice that you should just pay for a replacement card to stop all this messing around. That doesn't help the fact that you're coming close to abandoning your residency but it's one thing.

Posted (edited)

Again, If you were my child in school I would apply for a replacement card and call it a wrap. All of that calling and running around would not be necessary. the card would be sent to your US address and then whiomever is left here in the US an send it on to you.
