Today, my fiance's visa was finally issued. He went to pick it up and ... (wait for it...I have been wanting to say this for a long time) it is now IN. HIS. HAND. :) :) :)

Like after receiving the NOA2, I am happy, but so mentally and physically exhausted that it won't exactly sink in. For both phases of this process (the petition approval and visa issuance) we were long overdue and got little hints from contacts and congressmen that good news was supposed to be coming soon, but it was dragged out so there were a few sleepless anticipatory nights beforehand.

I think we just had some bad luck. It took 6.5 months to get our NOA2. The binder with the Affidavit of Support and important documents was lost in the mail for a month. At our interview, we were told our visa would be issued in a week. Then we were told it had been issued. Then we were told that was all a mistake. We ended up in AP and it took more than 5 weeks from the interview. We had a wedding on the line the whole time. We fought. Tooth and nail. At every phase.

After all this, my primary feeling is grateful that I get to be in my country with my fiance. But underneath that I am still somewhat angry. We decided to do a k1 even though we were living together in the U.S. before, had other options and could have done it less legally. We had no idea what were getting into. We talked to a bunch of people, but they had all had straightforward 5-6 month k1 journeys. Overall this process has cost us a lot. Thousands of dollars. A year apart. A year of my fertility (hey, I think it should be said). It also came within 2 weeks of costing us our planned wedding. My final dress fitting a couple weeks ago fell just after we'd heard we'd been put into AP by the consulate, and let me tell you, you've never seen a more somber lookin' bride!

All is well in the end, I think, but...wow.

Thanks to everyone for their support throughout. Wishing you all the best.
