Comments : Interview date could have been scheduled for June 20th, 2011 as the earliest date for us but due to the fact that in our British Columbia RCMP detachment, it takes up to 4 weeks to complete and obtain a Police Certificate.. **Note: I did not require fingerprints as I had no previous convictions or criminal history.** This was the main cause of delay, as well as Canada Post has gone on strike and my birth certificate arrived a month after I filed it due to a discrepancy in the paperwork and processing times with Canada Post. Medical examination is set for July 6th also, days line up perfectly :)

Consulate Review: Vancouver, Canada
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : July 9, 2011
Embassy Review : The medical went very smoothly, in and out by about 8:30 AM.
Medical was approved by 1:15 PM the same day (July 6th, 2011) and had my results immediately and out the door.

Interview went by smoothly UNTIL it was pointed out that my father was a US Citizen, and by law, it is illegal to issue a K1 Visa to a possible Dual Citizen (Such as myself)

I now have to go through a totally different route, figure out if my biological father meets the residency requirements and then file for a US passport.
I wish I would've known at the very beginning before Alex and I set out on this adventure, but I didn't find out until May of 2011, 2 months before my interview and about.. 6 months after we had first petitioned for my K1 Visa.

On the upside to all of this, I may not have to give up Canadian Citizenship, and neither will my 3 year old daughter.. and if I cannot prove that my father met the residency requirements, then our K1 Visas are already approved. This is just a discrepancy on the path that they want me to iron out, and once that happens, all will be well.

Please cross your fingers and send good thoughts our way, we will be updating this review and our Status' on VJ until we get a final verdict on the K1/US dual citizenship.

Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
