I'm a truck driver and have been all over the country. I might be able to offer some suggestions if you can tell me some of the things she likes to do. Does she like to go hiking? If so, visit some of the national parks. I hear Yellowstone National Park in Northwest Wyoming is beautiful. Plus, it's only a few hours from Jackson Hole, WY; which is a gorgeous town in its own right. Take her to see some of the things that make this country unique. A trip to Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills of South Dakota would be an idea. I live in Illinois and grew up in the Chicago area. So, there are several places that I could recommend in that area. Congrats on getting her here. Best wishes.

I think Ray-J had some great suggestions. I too travel all over the country (and live in Chicago) and there are some wonderful places you can go here. I also like suggestions about Puerto Rico, Alaska, and Hawaii since they do give a feel of being in an exotic location. If a beach type thing is what you're looking for, consider those. Going to a place with mountains like Montana, Utah, and Washington can be fun too if you are into that sorta thing. Although places like New York and Los Angeles can be expensive, sometimes it's exciting for new comers to the US to see those places. My husband and I eloped in Las Vegas and just spent our honeymoon there as well. We felt it was easier that way. I hope you figure something out! Good luck

We were trying to decide as well and came up with several ideas, but are centering in on Las Vegas or New Orleans. We like the idea of the walk-ability of both cities if we decide to get out and do something, plus, it will save the cost of renting a car. We will do it up better next year when we don't have quite as much expense (do to the Visa process). Just a thought! Best of luck to you.

Hey everyone! My fiance get's here in may and we are getting married in June and we're trying to figure out a honeymoon. Idealy, we would love to go on a cruise but I see that just about all cruises leave the country and she can't leave the USA until we have her residency status changed. So...do any of you have any suggestions? Even the Alaska cruises make a stop in Canada. Any advice?

You are in Salt Lake and she is from the Dominican Republic.... I would rule out locations like Puerto Rico and other Caribbean Islands and try to take her someplace unique for her... I would consider Crater Lake if you are going in the summer. Extremely beautiful and unique - clearest water in the world, you can go on a boat cruise in the crater - if you take highway 8 (if I remember right) there are some amazing hikes that are very easy through old growth forests and dozens of really nice waterfalls... And if you drive you can go down through California through the redwood forest to San Fran..

Other ideas if not in the summer: Do a drive from San Antonio (take the river ride to the mall, very cool, and of course a quick visit to the Alamo) to Galveston. Galveston was very interesting when I visited last but I understand the last Hurricane did a number on it.. On The drive down there is the Kennedy Space Center, worth it for the Saturn Rocket alone :) and you can go along the texas coast - Corpis Cristi, Mustang Island, etc...

Anyway I am sure she will be happy wherever you visit :)

I'm biased but I love San Antonio. Lots of touristy things to do and also nice hotels on the riverwalk.

Thank you all for your suggestions! I was hoping for some kind of cruise that didn't leave the U.S... but it doesn't look like there are any. If I can find a cheap trip to Hawaii I think she would love it. She would love Disneyland also I know. At this point it'll be a question of funding! Once She arrives to the U.S. and I revise my funds, I think we'll make our decision but thank you all for your ideas! You all are great!

Is the cruise honeymoon a deal breaker? If not, consider traveling to any of the fine Summer destinations that the US has to offer. I see that many people have suggested Hawaii. Yet, would the Dominican beneficiary be so interested going to a beach destination being that he or she comes from a tropical country? I think that perhaps more interesting would be a different sort of destination. How about the mountains, desert, casinos? I can only speak for my fiance, but when I suggested traveling to the beach he said something like, "I have lived close to the ocean all of my life and I do not tan as all gringos do, so what would be the fun in that?" In fact, my fiance does not like to be out when it is sunny, he doesn't like to get any darker than he already is. So, my suggestion would be to ask the Dominican beneficiary which destination on land sounds more appealing...

which is the cheapest n best place for honeymoon when you look at the price ?? will 1500 dollars be enough for a honeymoon in puerto rico or florida including air tickets from ny a 3 star hotel n food ??

plz advice .

We are going to Maine for our honeymoon and if we had more time we would have gone to Hawaii. If you go to Hawaii you need to be careful because some planes connect through Canada. You want to avoid those.

Go to Vegas! Great prices on luxury hotels, AMAZING restaurants, spas, pools, shows... Flights are so much cheaper than Hawaii or the Caribbean. Save your money for that first anniversary cruise. You can rent a car and take a drive through the desert, or a helicopter tour of the grand canyon. Or just stay at your resort, rent a cabana by the pool, and canoodle all day.

I would like to share some of my pictures of Puerto Rico beaches just to promote the island as a honeymoon or vacation destination ;) By the way we went to Orlando for Honeymoon, we wanted to visit some warm place during winter. In the case of my houseban he told, "I would go anywhere for honeymoon, anyway the whole USA is new for me ;)"
