Hey everyone! My fiance get's here in may and we are getting married in June and we're trying to figure out a honeymoon. Idealy, we would love to go on a cruise but I see that just about all cruises leave the country and she can't leave the USA until we have her residency status changed. So...do any of you have any suggestions? Even the Alaska cruises make a stop in Canada. Any advice?

I'm a truck driver and have been all over the country. I might be able to offer some suggestions if you can tell me some of the things she likes to do. Does she like to go hiking? If so, visit some of the national parks. I hear Yellowstone National Park in Northwest Wyoming is beautiful. Plus, it's only a few hours from Jackson Hole, WY; which is a gorgeous town in its own right. Take her to see some of the things that make this country unique. A trip to Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills of South Dakota would be an idea. I live in Illinois and grew up in the Chicago area. So, there are several places that I could recommend in that area. Congrats on getting her here. Best wishes.

Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (my home!) are all US jurisdictions.

Hawaii, especially in the summer. It's dry here from May-August and there are deals to be had since it's not the tourist season (beaches are less crowded, hotels have more vacancy, rental car specials, etc).

Check out Hawaiian Airlines online and look at their "month view" for schedules so you can see which days are cheapest. Last summer my parents came out here and found a deal from Seattle roundtrip for $119 each way. Don't book too early and don't book too late - some deals pop up last minute and others come way down the road.

Suggestions...

1. Do something else, go on a cruise after she gets her Green Card

2. Get married, go anywhere you wnat for the honeymoon and then file for a CR-1

Is the cruise honeymoon a deal breaker? If not, consider traveling to any of the fine Summer destinations that the US has to offer. I see that many people have suggested Hawaii. Yet, would the Dominican beneficiary be so interested going to a beach destination being that he or she comes from a tropical country? I think that perhaps more interesting would be a different sort of destination. How about the mountains, desert, casinos? I can only speak for my fiance, but when I suggested traveling to the beach he said something like, "I have lived close to the ocean all of my life and I do not tan as all gringos do, so what would be the fun in that?" In fact, my fiance does not like to be out when it is sunny, he doesn't like to get any darker than he already is. So, my suggestion would be to ask the Dominican beneficiary which destination on land sounds more appealing...
