I didn't see that. Considering we have that stupid rule that the OP can lock down a thread at whim, that at least makes more sense.

Let alone the fact that the conversation itself was still quite relevant and flowed in a natural way a discussion flows to other aspects of the same topic.

Something cool with the new VJ layout is that you can invite more than one person into a PM (now called conversations), making it like a little mini-thread. I have yet to try it for topic discussions, but I think when something goes way off the spectrum and into this 'zone' of personal insults / hopelessness, that could be an option to continue the conversation without possibly violating TOS.

I don't really like that word, but anywhoo, I like to think of myself as intelligent. Not Bill Gates intelligent, but certainly not a retard my friend. Although having 3 kids does take a toll on your brain I have to say.

I thought for such a hot issue such as abortion, all people involved were pretty level headed and imo, it was quite tame.

Eta: it wasn't locked for 'personal insults' btw. I would have nothing to say if there were loads in there, and that was the reason. "straying off topic' is ridiculous

Please do not blame the mods for doing their job. The site allows an OP to request their topic be closed per their request. Mods only enforce the rules. They do not make the rules.

E, the thread closure said 'locked due to going off topic'

It didn't say 'locked at OPs req' it said

Since there can be no consensus due to the nature of the subject matter and the wide variety of personal beliefs and since the discussion is no longer on the original topic, I am closing this thread.

I personally don't care whether the thread is closed or not, but in principle, do you agree with a mod coming in and shut down a thread for 'veering off topic' WHILE the thread is in off-topic??? Is that the way you're running OT now?

As I said, I don't mind if that thread remains locked, (esp if the OP req it) but I just don't like the idea of mods closing down threads in off topic for going off topic, heh.
