Guys, I need help :( .. The USCIS sent me a mail for interview on July 14th, me and my husband are planning to go today to the bank to make a joint account, and we will be using this as one of my proofs on my interview if they will ask for proofs, and the only problem is , i don't have my EAD yet, the only one I have is my SSS and I don't have yet my California ID since CA ID needs EAD for me to have one,and I don't know if the bank will approve us to make a joint account :(..

Hello, oh dont put that sad face on, it'll be all good

I'm just going to tell you about my personal experience when we went to the bank to make a joint account alright? i hadn't had my EAD and GC either at that time, so i just gave them my Passport, SS # and Marriage Certificate, they accepted them and approved it, they said as soon as i have my EAD or GC to come back again so they can update my information (they meant about the last name changing, because i still had my maiden name on my Passport and SS Card then).

So there you have it, every bank has different rules but i sure hope your husband's bank wont be so fussy about it ;)

Now smile!

All the waits, stresses, tears, heartaches, all the miserable feelings you feel along the way will be paid off once you get what you've been hoping for...oh and WITHOUT PRAYERS? will be like trying to start a fire with water, JUST WON'T WORK!

you dont need an EAD to open a bank account. You don't need an SSN to be ADDED to a bank account, but you do need one to OPEN a bank account (from my experience). You have a SSN so you're fine. No problem. Take your passport as ID, and your marriage licence if you want your account in your married name.

you can add your name to your husband's account...my husband is the prime account holder and I'm the subaccount and I just showed them my passport....every month we receive 2 bank statements...the prime bank statement under his name and both our names on the sub account statement...You can also tell them that you're working on your social and will give it to them as soon as you have it, if they insist on your social...My husband did the talking and everything worked out fine...:) ...Goodluck...I'm not sure if we're allowed to say bank names here but to be sure,I can pm you the bank name if you want and perhaps you can try a branch there...:)...Goodluck!!!

well, I went awhile ago with my husband carrying with me my passport and my SSS, we went at chase bank,,,unfortunately the agent told us to go to DMV first to have my CA ID, coz they need a secondary ID,I told him that I dont have my EAD yet so its impossible for me to get one, and he told me that with SSS im fine, but I dont know... since I went check out the website of DMV, it says, EAD or GC ...now we dont know what to do, we need a bank account as one of our proofs :(

Oh im sorry the bank guy wont put your name on the account , yea...as i said, every bank has different rules.

Im not sure also though, but if i were you, i would go to DMV and bring my passport, SS# , the NOAs from the AOS Petition and also the interview letter. That way the people at DMV know you are about to have your Permanent Residence interview, and hopefully they will let you make an ID, would you do that? wont hurt to try. The DMV isnt too far from your house is it?

You dont need a SSN to open an account. I opened a Chase and Bank of America without it. They said that its not a requirement to open accounts, I simply used my passport, showed 'em my student visa and I-20 and that was it.

The OP is here on a K1. there are different requirements for different visas. Different allowances too.

she only needs her passport and her SSN. I don't know why they're making it so hard. i'd go to a difft bank. I'm with Wells Fargo. Try them.

well I got the same thing the first time I tried opening an account but the OP may want to try other places, as said.

And since OP came on a K-1 and have SSN, then shouldnt it be easy to get an account?? Just curious

We just showed my husband's passport as he did not have his EAD or CA ID yet. He did have the ss number. They asked for a secondary ID, but when I explained the situation they said it was fine. Do you have any kind of ID from your country other than a passport? Maybe you can try a different branch of the same bank. Hopefully you can find someone who understands your unique situation.

I was just trying to say I did not have a ssn then. I had my passport and 2 other forms of ID from my country- my European DL and my Italian ID. Also, proof of the fact I was on an internship, basically that I had a visa. Things might have changed in the meantime though.

It SHOULD be simple, that's what I meant by "don't know why they're making it so hard". Seriously all it took was my passport as ID (I don't think they looked at my visa either), then my SSN and that was it.

OP - Try other banks as suggested. Mine is Wells Fargo. Good luck!
