We were penpals for several months and spoke on the phone as often as possible. Our first meeting was in Rome. Rome was a one-day cruise port on a Mediterranean cruise I went on with my mother. He flew from England to Rome so that we could spend 10 blissful hours together. First kiss was on the Spanish Steps. Incredibly romantic and by far one of the best days of my life!

We met at a hostel in the bathroom at 6am after both of us had our stuff stolen while traveling by bus from Uganda to Kenya. We had a good laugh then he took me to solve my money problem...that turned out to be our first date! We didn't figure that out until way later, 5 years later we're finally engaged!

The topic of him visiting the Philippines came up in one of the conversations (I think that was April08) and the next thing we knew, we were agreeing that it would be better if I go to the US for a visit since I haven't been there. Applied for a B2 visa in June and was off to Chicago in August2008.

And the rest as they say is history.

We met at Chicago O'hare Airport Gawd I was so nervous I was shaking. We had been chatting online for 2 years and he finally got his own place instead of having to move around. As soon as he got the keys I'd booked my flight and flew to see him 3 months later. It was a great three months and my first trip abroad without family members so it was a new adventure of course my mum was nervous and I left all my contact numbers and his address and phone numbers to allay her fears. Within the week we got my first us cellphone to call home to say he a real person Have gone back to see him since for a further three months and hoping to go back again at somepoint later in the year. Wish he could come over here but he has 2 children in school and no one will look after the kids for a short time so no trips to the uk. I guess I have to drag my mother out with me on the next trip so she can meet him, she's convinced he won't come over here because they once had a few choice words with eachother

Can't believe i'm an engaged woman I still blush when mum randomly tells strangers she goes to the states and comes home engaged. Second to that it's always you won't come home next time though they know I will as I have nooo choice!

We ended up getting married within two months of meeting each other.

5 years and two kids later there are no regrets.

We met online and when it was finally time to see each other irl for the first time he told me the only gentlemanlike way to do it was for him to come see me in my country first. He didn't like the thought of me travelling to a -for me completely foreign- country all by myself to come see this guy I had never met irl before. Super cute.
