I've searched the forum and haven't found much information on this:

Since the K1 visa requires marriage in the US and re-entry would be difficult, if not impossible, prior to obtaining AP... where are people honeymooning? Most of the "cool" destinations are outside the US and thus ruled out. Anybody given thought to the US Virgin Islands?

HI! Congratulations on mailing your packet, I hope all works out well & fast without a RFE (request for more evidence).

First off all, I'm a detective when it comes to traveling, finding deals/coupons and doing reviews!

But to answer your quesion, I'd have to know what's YOUR ideal honeymoon taste. Some people like #1: island atmosphere, #2: snowy mountain atmosphere, #3: live excitement/entertainment or #4: just romantic peaceful and serene atmosphere.

For #1, you can try US Virgin Islands or Hawaii, both can be pricey and you should check with USCIS before you go! Or even Florida.

For #2, you can try Alaska or New York, not New York City but deep down in the country side of New York.

Tor #3, you can try Atlantic City, New Jersey; Las Vegas; or New York City, LOTS of stuff to do and see in all three other than gambling and shopping!

For #4, you can try the Poconos in Pennsylvania, very popular for honeymooners.

I'm not sure what your taste or budget is, but all those cities has a bunch of free and affordable things to. Lastly, sometimes it's better to stay at a hotel in a neighboring city to save $. For instance, if you chose New York, you can book a hotel in Jersey City, New Jersey and it'll only be a 5 minute drive or (10 minute bus ride) through the Lincoln Tunnel to get to the city itself.

Goodluck and let me know what you think.

There are many wonderful places in the National Park system and in the state systems. Reserve.gov and reserve America have search engines that help you find places. Check these places for things that might interest you . Riding Mules to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and staying on the bottom. White water rafting. Staying in forests of California. Drive US 1 along the west coast. Visit New Orleans Many of these activities are cheaper than packages elsewhere and will provide you with long term memories that beat a week in a high priced hotel.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

I agree. Gatlinburg is really nice.

I went there for new years once. It was super cold though.

Those are all great ideas. Hawaii is definitely a cool option. Both of my siblings honeymooned in Hawaii, so I was thinking about going another direction.

How are people handling the honeymoon planning? While the visa is still in process, did you just roughly say "we'll go to Hawaii" or wherever, or did you defer that conversation until you could more firmly create plans?

Anyone consider a cruise?

I wouldn't suggest a cruise until either AP or greencard in hand.

Unless you mean a cruise UP the mississippi river.

All other cruises have a CBP staffer at the ship when it returns.

There's some exceptions, but is rare to find one. Maybe from SFO to Alaska ?

I think there are some roundtrip cruises from Seattle up to Juneau and back. However, those do make a stop at Victoria BC. Obviously without the paperwork the alien fiance would have problems. Even if you never exit the ship, I never considered that CBP would be there. Ugh! Maybe we should just grab one of those cabins in the Smokies... :)

This might seem a daft question - but has anyone experienced any issues with flights post-marriage but pre-AOS? (I'm thinking for the honeymoon specifically). Will there be some scrutiny at security?

We were considering Florida for a honeymoon, but as we'll be living in NH it's one heck of a drive down ;)

If you're not nailed down to going to beaches, Washington DC is an amazing city with alot to see and it's surrounded by beautiful countryside.. Every American should see it once. There's so much history and culture there.. :star:
