Looks to me like you - on your own - are not just tidy, but prefer austerity.

My husband always says when we go to my family's houses that he feels like he is in a museum and would hate to live like that. Of course, I freak out when I know we're getting a visit from family because they turn up their noses at the "lived in" appearance of our home.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

I am 'normal' neat

My wife, as always, is better than me...and is 'better-than-me' neat.

Its a good combination.

My wife is the exact opposite. If I'm messy, I'd have to become intimate with the broom stick or coat hanger. She's quite abusive.

You just have to learn to pick your battles, and decide what you can live with or not.

The dresser drawers look like my husbands lol as long as the drawer is closed, ive no problem. I wouldnt like piles of clothes on the floor, like in your photos. He does like to pile clothes on the chair in the bedroom tho.

I like things quite tidy myself, but you cant stress out about the small stuff!

We are neither of us overly neat or overly sloppy, although you can follow him through the house and know exactly where he has been by what is discarded in his wake  We are both packrats, though, so there are few uncovered surfaces in the house. While he just sort of leaves everything lying around, I go around and pick it up and put it away or try to organize it. I don't throw anything out without his knowledge, though, because he does just leave things hanging around and I don't know if it is something important or something that can be tossed. Every now and then he gets a tidying 'frenzy' and starts tossing stuff out left or right. Of course, I have found that I need to go through the bags of discarded mail and paper because invariably he also throws away something important or that should be kept (ie. cheques, bills, receipts, etc. hehehe). We both seem to organize by the 'pile' method - we have tidy piles of papers all over the office and the den:-). His clothes drawers are much neater than mine - but I do the laundry and just fold them and put them away where he has them. My drawers are less tidy because I need to decide on the appropriate colour and style of what top or pants to wear that day and go through several selections in getting dressed. He just wears what is next on top :P .

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

i can't open your slideshow link for whatever reason, but Brother, from what you have posted, it doesn't look THAT bad...

Pick only the most irksome of things... the stuff that really gets you pissed... and address those issues specifically. Be nice, but specific... "It really bugs me when you leave your clothes on the floor, please could you just put them in the hamper..."

Also, if you kind of divide up your space a bit that helps. Like if you have a shelf where you keep all your stuff, she should have one, too. And if her's is messier than yours, so be it...

You'll work it out, no worries.

Are you my husband sneaking on here? Because I swear you're him talking! Well, typing...the only thing we are ever going to argue about when he's finally here is exactly what you're talking about. He's a clean freak (and no he's not gay!!!!!). I have been spending every second of my spare time, when I'm not working, getting everything together in my house. The past two weekends it was cleaning out the garage. I'm organizing bins. I'm donating tons of #######. If I don't have my sh*t all together when he moves here, he'll freak. I'm stressed out about it! I just had to laugh when I saw this thread...

Our timeline:

2/88: We met in Sydney, Australia at a youth hostel! He's Finnish, I'm American-both were in our early 20s at the time and fresh out of college (so couldn't afford to visit each other's countries after that!). We had a three-day romance, then went our separate ways. He actually was going to Sydney a week later, but decided at the last minute to cut his trip short in another country and go early. Wow.

1988-1998: Wrote "snail mail" letters/sent Xmas cards, but lived our separate lives. I married someone else, divorced in 2006...he lived with someone for years and then that ended.

10/08: Because of a series of random life events, I Googled my Finn Man and found him (but no link to his email, and the website his name was on was in Estonian so I couldn't even read it!). It took me two weeks to find a link to someone else, who forwarded my email to him (we were both single at the time thankfully!!!!). The email went to his spam folder but he happened to check it that day and responded back to me immediately! This was after 10 years of no contact and almost 21 years of not seeing each other after we first met.

11/08-5/09: We traveled back and forth to visit each other. Love at first (second?) sight!

7/09: Married in Helsinki, Finland...after meeting randomly 21 1/2 years ago and finding each other again!!!!!

8/13/09: I-130 sent!!!!!!!!!

Rest is on my timeline!

I would be crucified alive if the military inspected my home. They would find all my extra shoes with laces untied and the bottoms not spit shined. Lots of clothes in my closets with many buttons unbuttoned, underwear and socks in my drawers, plus towels in the linen closet folded, not rolled. If they drop a quarter on my bed, it would lie there dead, won't bounce back up. May find some dust on my window sills, have 34 windows in my home. Three bathrooms are presentable, but if they look under the sinks, the brass isn't polished. Hardware floors are not spit shined either, just a quick going over with a wax mop. Would get murdered in my workshop and lab, stuff is laying around and not put back.

When I repaint a room, strip out all the furniture, clean it thoroughly, paint and revarnish the woodwork, clean the blinds, shades or drapes, shampoo the carpet or wax the floors, shampoo the furniture, wax the hardwoods, put it all back, but it's dusty after a week. Cleaning is endless have more important things to do. Had a six acre land to maintain, that was almost too much, only have a half acre now, but more than enough, always tree branches that fall over, if it's not mowing, it's raking leaves, the garden, or shoveling snow. On bing.com, saw how dirty my second story roof was in birdseye view, so did pressure wash that this summer, had 1,700 square feet of driveway to reseal. Always something, plus maintenance, installing a new energy star furnace now, nice tax credit.

When referring to one's wife, how is her appearance? In that respect, wife keeps herself super clean, tends to leave a dish laying around once in awhile, but generally neat. We have an eight foot wide vanity in our master suit, always kept that bare, ha, been awhile since if have seen the small tile, loaded with her bottles. But I like that, and I like her here.

We could spend our Saturday and Sunday mornings cleaning the house, or lying together in bed. What would be your choice?
