Hello,

My husband attended his CR-1 visa interview yesterday. He was well supplied with evidence of our "bona-fided" marriage. We had over 40 pictures of us and the kids, from the last 5 years, 15 pages of copies of letters and cards to each other, 8 pages of saved envelopes addressed to us both, the list goes on. We were hoping to hear, you qualify for a waiver (our waiver packet is ready to go) but instead he heard, I'm sorry, I need to speak with your wife. Come to find out, its becuase of our age difference, I am older, 20 years more, than he. Thats is in a nutshell. No matter what he brought or what he said, the red flag was brought up becuase he had a wife older than him. Funny thing is, most people think HE is older. regardless, I now have to get a pssport expedited, fly to Juarez, and do my 5 minute interview. Was curious has anyone else been in this position? What infuriates me is, I am the only one working now, since he s in Mexico, I have 2 kids, 1 has diabetes 1 and am in charge of supllies, shots, etc. Still when he told them all of this they wouldn't budge. Would love to hear some input!

So you have to go to Mexico. Tsk tsk, I hear that relaxing on the Riviera with one of those umbrella drinks in your hand is so tedious!

Lucky you. Make it a fun time, and get some REAL Mexican food. All we get here is Taco Bell!

Good luck and Enjoy!

I couldn't use my airline miles to go and couldn't afford $2200 for a plane ticket so I couldn't go to be with husband at interview. He answered one question (out of about 8) wrong and they told him they needed to research our relationship. No pink, no blue, just a letter telling us they would let us know if they needed more information or if they needed another interview. I emailed them and they told me the same thing, "we have your phone number and email, we will contact you if we need anything." blah blah blah. I called DOS today and they said, "This is standard procedure, don't worry about it. Call next week." blah blah blah. NOT the answers I wanted! Well, at least she said to call in a week - not 6 weeks or 6 months. I suppose that's a positive :)

This is an insensitive and utterly nonresponsive message. Accurately read what the OP wrote and interpret it literally. It is not a "dancing" matter! She could be facing a Stokes interview. Furthermore, Juarez is NOT the Riviera and is nowhere near a resort area like that.

OP, rather than assume that this will be a "5-minute interview," please read the first pinned thread in the "US Consulate" forum. I am personally certain that the consul doesn't simply want to "meet" you. I hope that I'm wrong, but please prepare as though it's the defining moment of your relationship and your lives. Let us know what results, and those of us who care (all of us, with insensitive exceptions) will be pulling for you.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Sory to hear of your bad news, but I also wanted to emphasise what this poster said. This is not a pro-forma 5 minute "just show up". YOu may well get a long, detailed interview about your husband, your life together, your courtship, his life before he met you etc. Same for him in another room, and then answers will be compared.

Bye: Penguin

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

Gayla:

I'm so sorry to hear this news, and I pray everything will be fine. A couple of things:

Unless they expressly told you they had a problem with your age differences, don't assume that is the ONLY issue of concern for them. I have seen people here on VJ say they were denied because of age, and after they post the transcript of their interview, it becomes very clear that there were other very serious concerns. I'm not saying this is absolutely the case with you both, but don't make a blanket assumption because it limits your ability to address ALL their concerns. Go over everything a hundred times with your husband to see if there is anything else, in addition to age, that could be a factor.

Also, I read your post that you supplied 40 photos, 15 pages of letters, etc., to cover a 5 year relationship. To be honest, certainly that serves a proof, but it's really not a lot of proof over a 5 year period. Having to be prepared for the Consulate in Nigeria, we were trained early to provide hundreds of photos, hundreds of pages on IMs, e-mails, etc. because Nigeria is considered a high fraud country. I say this to say, when you know you have issues that may be of concern to the Consulate, you have to work harder to prove the validity of the relationship.

Finally, I know you are down about having to go to Mexico, and rightly so due to the medical concerns of your child, but praise God you've been given the opportunity to speak to the Consulate. I have not read of this happening yet at the Nigerian Consulate. Typically if they are not satisfied, they just send the petition back to NVC and make the petitioner go through years of trying to get a second interview, which often includes spending $4,000 - $9,000 for an attorney. So, I know this is not what you expected, nor want and if this is just based on age, then I agree it is not fair, but thank God you have the opportunity to show them your intentions and the true nature of your relationship in person.

When you go, bring more evidence if you can put it together. If not, put on a happy face when you get there and SHOW them how genuine you are and your relationship is with the love of your life. Let them understand that while you agree that it's rare to see a woman with such an age gap over a man in this society, your love is true and it's beautiful and you praise God for it.

I wish you all the best in the world.

Obviously you have never been to Juarez. No holiday there unless you're in to guns and hookers. Google is your friend.

Thanks again everyone for your advice.

I know I did say a "5" minute interview (guess thats what I'm hoping for)....but I will be prepared for any length or interogation. I've heard they can get nasty. Who clearly knows why they have called me...other than what I have mentioned before. I will be prepared!

Thnaks to those of you answered ITZALLGOOD comment. I felt exactly the same but wasn't in the mood to argue at the moment!
