So, I have yet to change the status on my facebook to engaged because we are still in the process of telling people in person rather than having them find out via facebook. My question is, does anyone know if when the USCIS is poking around on our file, will they pull up our facebook pages? Will not having engaged as our relationship status hurt?

It seems like facebook these days is getting to big...

I doubt it, but the bigger question is:

You let everyone see your page on Facebook?? Time to edit those privacy settings.

I actually wouldn't mind if USCIS checked out mine and Jesse's Facebooks, they'd know it was a genuine relationship then!

But yes, if you're concerned I'd change the privacy settings so that only friends can see your page. Jess and I were the same with our status, he didn't want to set it as engaged before he told his family.

July 2007 - met Jesse at a beach party held by mutual friends in Long Island, NY

May 2008 - J-1 visa expired, had to move back to Australia

July 2008-September 2008 - lived with Jesse for three months in Staten Island, NY

March 2009 - Jesse comes to Australia for 3 weeks

April 2009 - Engaged!

05/20/09 - I-129F petition mailed in

05/22/09 - NOA1!

05/25/09 - touch

09/09/09 - NOA2!

10/01/09 - due to fiance's illness, we are abandoning pursuit of K-1 at this point. Packet 3 received from consulate but won't be returned.

The marital staus listed listed on facebook would not be any concern to the USCIS. Are you serious? You submit an I-129f with letters of intent but the adjudicator will deny you because facebppk doesn't say "engaged". One is a legal document signed under penalty of purjury the other is a playgound social netwoorking site where probably not more than 30% of the information posted is true.

I thought the same thing. I quickly told in person or phoned all the most important people, then changed my status a week later, after I had told a lot of people (I didn't want my favorite aunt finding out from my cousins who are all on my page!). I know most people will find out via Facebook, but not the people we talk to often!

We called all the very important people first, but then we couldn't wait, so we put it on facebook a few hours later. I actually screencapped the thread with the announcement with all the replies of congrats and included it in our packet haha :)

They are not concerned if you are engaged or not, just, do you both intend to marry within 90 days of entry.

As other said, I highly doubt they are checking facebook. But again, really it's a good idea to work on your privacy settings anyway so that the whole world can't see your stuff, but that's your own personal business so whatever.

Also, even if they did check your FB they ARE NOT going to care that it says in a relationship instead of engaged, or even if it says single they aren't going to care. The letters of intent that you included are far more important than that. The only thing that I can think of that they might ask about (if they indeed check our FBs) is if you and your fiancee said "married". IF they do check FB and you say you are married, then they might ask about that at the interview.

But as Gary said, how many of us have things on our FB that is totally BS and not true??? Lots! I've been -married- to my best female friend on facebook for about 5 years now. No worries about changing it at all!!! But it's always a good idea to be prepared for any questions at the interview, FB related or not...be prepared for everything.

And to the person that said they screenshot the congrats on facebook for their I-129F packet, good idea! I haven't heard that one before. Not that that screenshot is really going to make a difference in your packet, but still...creative idea and I hadn't seen anyone mention that before!

Wasn't there a thread about this a few months back? Specifically stating that, yes, immigration can (and has on occassion) check out Facebook and MySpace pages to verify the authenticity of a relationship.

Not to say that it happens to everyone, but I remember a discussion reporting that it has begun to happen on occassion and that it is part of the terms of use that gives access of these sites that to the government even if they aren't your "friend".

My facebook has no mention of my fiancee and I have not published a "relationship status" I don't share personal information on facebook at all. It's a way to keep close friends connected. I post pics and a few statements thats it. USCIS doesn't care about personal web pages unless they are questionable or illegal.
